Mumbai Will be the Home to India's First Undersea Tunnel By Which Year?

Mumbai will be the home to India's first undersea tunnel by 2023. The length of this tunnel is 2.07 km and it is a part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, which is a 10.58-km stretch starting from the Marine Drive promenade to the Worli-end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. It will be the first undersea road tunnel in India which will pass through the Arabian Sea near Girgaon Chowpatty.

Mumbai undersea tunnel is being built by using Mava, India's biggest Tunnel Boring Machine which is operated by a team of 30 members and has a diameter of 12.19 metres. As compared to the English Channel Tunnel its deepest point is 75 metres below the sea bed while Japan's Sekan Tunnel is over 100 metres below the seabed.
