MPSC Combined Exam 2022: Strategy and Preparation Tips

1. Assess the nature of questions

MPSC Combine Question Paper analysis reflects that the questions asked are more factual than conceptual, for example:

  • The earth summit of 1992 at Rio de Janeiro resulted in a Convention on Biodiversity, which came into force in which of the following date?
  • For history, MPSC Combined focuses more on person-centric (Samaj-Sudharak) questions than the historical event itself. It includes questions inquiring about the place of birth, the name of the institute or sabha he/she has founded, what kind of social work he/she did, etc.
  • Who from the following is described in the following sentences?
  1. He was from the Kale village in the Satara district.
  2. He had studied up to the fourth standard.
  3. His ‘Jalsa’ had a tremendous impact on the people of Maharashtra.
  4. He used to make the Bahujan Samanj’ aware of their pitiable condition and lack of education.

2. Practice the previous year’s question paper

As the previous papers are referred to frequently, more will understand what type of questions MPSC Combined usually asks and study according to it.

  • For Geography, questions mostly focus on location (North to South), height, area, etc.
  • Identify the correct sequence of talukas from north to south in the Nandurbar district.
  • Arranging mountain ranges is correct from north to south etc

3. Use memorization techniques to memorize

As the Maharashtra Public Service Commission conducts the MPSC Combined exam, candidates are expected to memorize everything about the state.

  • Rivers & their Tributaries, Mountains & Passes, National Parks & Wildlife Sanctuaries, Talukas & Districts, Minerals & Ores Locations, etc.
  • North to South of Sahyadri peaks: Hanuman, Saller, Muller, Saptashungi, Toula, Shingi, Kalsubai, Harishchandra, Bhimashankar, Tamhani, Torna, Rajgad, Mahabaleshwar.

4. Frequent Revisions

  • Multiple revisions are required to grasp polity, economics, and history concepts.

5. Selective study of Current Affairs

  • Candidates do not need to spend so much time on MPSC current affairs
  • Not many questions depend directly or indirectly on it.
  • Although, 1/5th of questions in MPSC are based on current affairs. But they are just asked on specific types only. The current affairs-based questions are quite predictable.
  • There will be at least five questions on Awards & at least 2 or 3 questions on Periodic summits & programs.
  • Sports awards, Film awards, Padma awards, Nobel prizes, Sahitya awards, Jnanpith Award, COP summit, Olympics events, etc.
  • Jaydev Unadkat emerged as the most expensive Indplayerayer in the 2018 IPL auction. He is signed by________.

6. Improve accuracy

While solving question papers to improve accuracy, candidates need to focus on the following things:

  • Indicator words like ‘Not’, ‘Only’, ‘All’, etc.
  • Distinguish stand-out option.
  • Identify faulty or poor option statements.
  • Identify conflict in-between option statements.

Find out the intention of the questioner by reading the question carefully. Figure out where they might trick us. 1. Dates 2. Locations 3. Rhyming options, 4. Not True, True, False, etc words in the question statement.

7. Enhancing your speed

  • In both prelim & mains exams, only 1 hour is given to solve 100 questions.
  • Hence, it is necessary to attempt as many questions as possible within an hour.
  • Candidates need to develop an ability to understand questions more quickly.
  • In short, to improve your speed, you need to solve as many question papers as possible in a time-bound manner.
  • Now, the question is where to start preparing for the MPSC Combined examination?
