Mental math is more important to pass this subject than just executing the calculations by hand, and many applicants struggle in the prelims exam due to weak mental math skills.

  1. The topics in Quantitative Aptitude that are the simplest and most effective are simplification, mathematical issues like percentage, age, simple and compound interest, ratio and proportion, etc. On these subjects, you should expect 15–17 questions, on average.
  2. There are about 12–15 time-consuming questions, including ones on probability, quadratic equations, time and work, mixture and allegations, time, speed and distance, number series, etc.
  3. You need to master a few fundamental numerical computation techniques in order to ace both simple and complex questions. Learn the squares and cubes from 1 to 25, the common percentage, and both the fractional and decimal counterparts of the multiplication tables up to 25.

  5. Don’t use a calculator while practising the sums, instead, try to solve the calculations in your head. Additionally, become comfortable performing computations by jumping steps, as this will significantly cut down on the time needed.
  6. Write down all the summation formulas in a separate notepad. While practising the sums can help you recall the formulas, you should also have this copy close at hand in case you need to review it at the last minute.
  7. Last but not least, before beginning to attempt to identify the problems you can quickly solve or are confident about, rapidly scan over all of the questions during the exam. Try these initially, and then move on to the ones that will take you a little more time and effort.
