CAT 2022 Exam Pattern: The CAT exam pattern and syllabus will be administered by IIM (CAT) soon. The CAT paper pattern 2022 is divided into three sections and comprises a total of 66 questions. The VARC (Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension) consists of 24 questions and QA (Quantitative Aptitude) section has 22 questions, while the DILR (Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning) section has 20 questions. Candidates must make note of all the changes seen in the CAT Pattern 2022 for better understanding. 

Candidates must be familiar with the IIM CAT exam pattern 2022 before beginning their CAT preparation. To be considered for IIM shortlisting, a candidate must perform well in each of the sections and meet the sectional cut-offs. CAT Exam Pattern 2022

CAT exam pattern includes three sections, namely  Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, and Quantitative Aptitude. The CAT exam will last two hours (120 minutes) and each CAT section will have a time limit of 40 minutes, according to the CAT 2022 pattern. Candidates will not be permitted to switch from one section to the next while answering questions in the previous section. The CAT exam pattern for MBA is mentioned in detail below.

Marking Scheme

  • For every right answer, +3 will be awarded

  • For every wrong answer in MCQs, -1 will be deducted

Note: In 2020, the number of questions was cut from 100 to 76, and in 2021, the number of questions was reduced from 76 to 66. For CAT 2022, there are expected to be 66 questions.

CAT Exam Pattern 2022: Slots and Sectional Time

There is a sectional time limit per section in CAT Exam. The CAT Exam is also conducted in sessions throughout the day. Below mentioned are the CLAT sectional time details and slot detail. 

The following are the three sessions in which CAT 2022 will be held:

  • Morning session (8:30 am - 10:30 pm)
  • Afternoon session (12:30 pm - 2:30 pm)
  • Evening session (4:30 pm - 6:30 pm)

Note:

  • For CAT 2005 to 2008, there were three sections in the form of VARC, DILR, and QA with no sectional time limit.
  • From CAT 2009 to CAT 2013, there were only 60 questions with 150 minutes, again with no sectional time limit.
  • For CAT 2011, 2012, and 2013, the number of questions was kept constant however the sections were modified to be converted into two sections: VARC-LR and QA-DI. The number of questions in each section was limited to 30 each.
  • In CAT 2014, there were only two sections: VARC-LR and QA-DI. Both sections consisted of 50 questions each and the total time is 150 minutes, with no sectional time limit.
