Hello Gradians,

JEE( Joint Entrance Examination), the ticket to various reputed engineering colleges of India is approximately 40 days away. With the exam approaching closer, aspirants are having various uncertainties regarding their preparation strategy in the last 40 days. The most talked about or asked questions among JEE aspirants is, finding the right strategy for the last 40 days or devising the efficient revision strategy.

Before talking about the right strategy, it is important to ask yourself an important question, i.e. where do you stand with respect to being prepared for JEE Main 2020 January session? If this question scares you, then you must up the ante before it’s too late. Ideally, this is the right time to start revising the syllabus, so your primary concern should be focusing on completing the syllabus as early as possible by devoting some extra hours in your study schedule.

Coming to the main area of concern, what should be the ideal strategy for the last 40 days?

Till now, your focus has been more on building the concepts than practicing, but it should be the other way around in the time that is left, solving problems is way more important in this phase of preparation. Solve atleast 20 problems a day of each subject and it should be relevant from exam point of view. Students generally make the mistake of solving ego boosting problems or complex problems(not relevant from exam point of view) and end up screwing their confidence just before the exam. Confidence with which you enter the exam hall decides your fate majorly, so choose the books you befriend and practice wisely.

Planning each day wisely from now onwards is gonna be vital for securing a seat in your dream college. Elaborating on the point mentioned in the last paragraph, focus on studying relevant content rather than studying everything. For knowing, what to read, knowing the exam pattern is important. Jot down all the important chapters and chapters with high weightage, you need to understand that it’s not necessary to attempt every question in exam. But, make sure you don’t leave any question in which you could have scored easily. Topics like thermodynamics( common to both physics and chemistry), electrochemistry, electrodynamics, mechanics, optics, complex numbers, coordinate geometry, probability, 3D Geometry and vector algebra are vital in scoring good marks and should be given maximum importance. Allocate time to these topics accordingly in your study plan. Chapters like polymer, surface chemistry, semiconductors shouldn't be neglected as these are easy and scoring topics.

Another common mistake students make is studying anything randomly, make sure you start your revision process with a proper structured study schedule, allocating equal time to each subject. Plan it in a way such that you will be able to revise the whole syllabus atleast twice before the D-day. Prepare short notes or make use of flash cards while revising for the first time, it will help you in revising those topics again more quickly and much more efficiently.

Clearing JEE is not just about hard work, it’s equally about the temperament you show during the D-day. It’s essential to train your mind for that. This is what makes, giving full length mocks an important part of last 40 days strategy. Target giving atleast 2 mocks in a week. Treat it like the time, cricketers spend in nets before the actual match to get familiar with the pitch.

Practicing regularly is the only quality that can make an average student clear this exam. It will help you in experiencing the exam environment and improve your time management skills, which in turn will help you in developing the skill of keeping calm under pressure.

Make sure you remain consistent and motivated. Also, this time NTA introduced Numerical Type Questions, so make sure you prepare yourself according to the exam pattern. Just remember, all of the hard work you are going to put will eventually pay off in the end. Try avoiding social media, other social gatherings and friends who stirs self doubt in you in this important phase of preparation.

To summarize it all in some one pointers:-

  • Hard work alone is not enough, it has to be gelled with a proper study plan and right execution.Follow a proper study schedule, study efficiently rather than picking anything randomly.
  • Hard work is important, but it’s actually your temperament on D-day, which decides whether you will be in or out. Practice mocks as much as you can.
  • Understand the power of practice, it does make an average student get through. (Notice the mention of does, in place of can).
  • Work on time management and problem solving ability.
  • Stay motivated and keep analyzing yourself in short breaks, remain stress free and enjoy the preparation phase.

Try incorporating the said points while devising the strategy for the last 40 days. Be persistent with the hard work and keep practicing, surely you will achieve what you dreamed for, in the starting of your preparation phase.
