Preparation Technique

To prepare for any section it is very important to know your current preparation level. Therefore before starting your preparation (especially for the Quant section), we would suggest you to work on analyzing your strength and weak areas.

The next very important area you need to cover is to know the right set of books for preparing.

Must READ BOOKS FOR MAT PREPARATION

Divide you preparation as per the division of these areas.

  • First, cover the topics which come under your strength areas. Start with learning all the important concepts and formulas related to these topics. As these are your strength areas, so practice starts your preparation with Level 2 questions.
  • Second, once you have covered all the topics of your strength areas start with the topics that lie in your weak segment. Follow the same procedure as you were doing for the above segment. The only difference here is while practicing the questions cover first the basic level of questions then move to the higher difficulty level. This is the only missing point when a candidate jumps to higher difficulty level questions as a result of which there is a gap created in the concept clarity.

Two most important things which you have to work on while your preparation of both the strength and weak areas:

  1. Keep one day of a week as per your convenience (for example Sunday, if you are a working professional) for the revision of all what you have covered in the previous week.
  2. Keep attempting the Topic-wise tests after covering that particular topic. Through this, you will be able to check the direction of your preparation.

Once you are done covering all the topics, start attempting the sectional test for Quantitative Aptitude. Here, you need to work on analyses after writing every test. Check which questions you were not able to attempt or the ones which went wrong and the reason behind it, then revise the chapters accordingly.

How to attempt the Quant Section in MAT Exam

As there is no sectional restriction in this exam, so it is very important to focus on time management. The suggested time to attempt this sections is 40 minutes.

There are two ways to go for this section: First, give 1-2 minutes to check the questions and mark the one which suits your convenience (the one from your strength areas) and attempt those first in the given 40 minutes. Elaborating which means start from the easy ones and then go for the difficult ones.

Second, to start from the very first question. Dedicate few seconds to it (40 – 60 seconds preferable) and check if you are able to do it move further and complete the question. Else, if you think it is going in no direction move on to the next question without wasting your time. This screening of questions come from a lot of practice. That is why we focus on attempting sectional and overall mocks because this would give you a very good idea of the exam and will set you into the practice of choosing the right question in the right time.
