The pattern of the exam contains a very important section which tests the candidate on the basis of his/her General Awareness. This section is named as ‘Indian and Global Environment’. This section holds a major importance for scoring high in the overall examIn this article we will discuss your preparation strategy for this section.

Number of Questions40
Marking Scheme+1, -0.25
Time of Attempt10-15 minutes

The importance of this section lies in the fact that in very less amount of time you can attempt more number of question increasing the chances of scoring sectionally and then contributing to an increase in an overall percentile. With a good preparation for General Awareness, one can easily attempt 30+ questions in 10 minutes of time. This section also has sectional cut-off which makes it more important from the view of scoring.

The questions which are being asked in this section are from both current and static GK. To prepare for this section, an in-depth and regular reading about the current affairs is recommended. And as per the static GK is concerned, that can be learned from a various website which covers daily GK, along with the static one. One of the most favored websites is Gktoday .

Some of the most important topics from which the questions appear in the MAT exam are:

  • Books, currencies, capitals, flags, emblems
  • Business & Economics related news
  • Company punch line, logo identification
  • Constitution of India
  • Conventional GK
  • Current Affairs
  • Fiscal & Monetary policy of India
  • International events
  • Personalities-Who’s who
  • Sports news-past, present, and upcoming events
  • Science, Technology & literature

As per the difficulty of this section is considered, it totally depends upon your knowledge and preparation level and on how much you keep yourself updated to the current and static GK scenarios. This section can be a piece of cake for someone who is very good at GK, and that candidate can focus more on increasing the score by investing very less time. Whereas, for someone who is not that good with current affairs and Gk this section can be a very tough task.

Divide your preparation strategy for this section into two parts:

For Current Affairs: Make a habit of staying updated with the current events going on a daily basis. Denote at least 30-40 minutes noting down all the important events which have taken place that day in a notebook. Revise all these important notes at the end of every week. In case, if you are not able to prepare GK on daily basis, you can prepare for this section on weekly basis. But a very important point to note here for your preparation is the regular revision of all the notes.

For static GK: Be clear of all the important topics from which the questions appear in this section. Cover one topic at a time and keep revising all that you have learned.
