Maharashtra Civil Judge Probation Period

  • When selected for the Maharashtra Judiciary post, the selected candidates are kept on probation for about 3 years. 
  • Applicants who have been recommended for an appointment to the present post will be holding the post for 3 years at the time of appointment. 
  • It will be necessary to write a bond of Rs. 2 lakhs in this regard.
  • A person appointed to the office shall be required to give a written guarantee that he will be banned from practicing law for 2 years from the end of his service while serving in any court or court subordinate to that court and will not practice law in such courts for two years from the end of his service.

Being a part of the Maharashtra Judicial Service, one must fulfill the following responsibilities. The general responsibilities include the following:

  • The Civil Judge (Junior Division) must hear civil cases such as land acquisition cases, election petitions based on Zila panchayat, motor accident claim petitions, and other cases.
  • The Civil Judge (Junior Division) also appoints class 3 and 4 employees. Further, he can also transfer and promote them.
  • The Civil Judge (Junior Division) also has to pass the pay bills of the subordinate authority to them.
  • Civil Judge (Junior Division) determines civil cases of little financial stake. Judicial Magistrates resolve the criminal cases, punishable with imprisonment of up to 3 years.

There can be a lot of growth in your career as a Maharashtra Civil Judge. This is usually based on the Maharashtra Civil Judge's performance and his experience. If he performs well, he will have a higher chance of being promoted in a few years. Promotion of Maharashtra Civil Judge (junior division) to Maharashtra Civil Judge of a senior division is largely based on the vacancies available. It can take about 7 years to reach a higher position. 65% of these promotions are based on seniority and applicants' examination. However, other promotions can be made by directly applying for the entrance test for higher posts and qualifying them.
