MPPSC Notes: Madhya Pradesh Census 2011

A census is the procedure of systematically calculating, acquiring and recording information about the members of a given population. In this article we are providing you complete detail of MP Census 2011. That is very important for MPPSC and upcoming state exams.

Madhya Pradesh Census 2011

Final data of 15th census of country in 2011 are issued by census directorate. With this final data of census of 10th June, 2013 are issued by state’s census work directorate. The main points of final data of census, 2011 of M.P. are as follows:

  • According to final data of census 2011, total population of state is 7,26,26,809 in which male population is 3,76,12,306 while female population is 3,50,14,503.
  • State population is 6% of country’s population.
  • According to final data of census 2011, number of 0-6 years children in state’s population is 1,08,09,395 in which number of boys are 56,36,172 and girls are 51,73,223.
  • Sex ratio of state has been done 931 while it was 919 in 2001. (number of women over 1000 men). Thus, growth of 12 digits is recorded in sex ratio of state in the last decade.
  • District of maximum sex ratio of state is Balaghat (1021) while minimum is Bhind (837).
  • State’s child ratio (0-6 years) is 918 which is 932 in 2001.
  • According to final data, number of girls is more reduced in villages in comparison to urban areas of the state. In villages, 939 girls over 1000 boys in which 923 is left in 2011 while in cities this figure 907 has to be declined from 901.
  • Maximum child sex ratio district in state is Alirajpur (978) while minimum child sex ratio district is Morena (829)
  • According to census 2011, maximum population district of the state is Indore (32,76,697) while minimum is Harda (5,70,465).
  • In terms of area, state’s largest district is Chhindwara that area is 11,815 sq. km. while area of Datiya district of the state is lowest area with 2,691 sq. km.
  • According to census 2011, population density of the state is 236. Maximum population density of the state is district Bhopal (855) while minimum population density district is Dindori (94).
  • According to Religious census 2011, population in state are as follows : Hindus 66007121, Muslims 4774695, Chrishtians 213282, Sikhs 151412, Buddhists 216052, Jains 567028, Others 5,99,594.
  • According to final data of census 2011, literacy rate of the state is 69.32% Male literacy rate is 78.73% and female literacy rate is 59.2%
  • The state’s highest literacy district is Jabalpur (81.1%), while the lowest literacy rate is in Alirajpur (36.1%) district.
  • In 2001-2011, the total literacy in the decade has increased by 5.6%, while female literacy has increased by 8.9%.
  • Indore (32.88%) is the district with the highest population growth rate in the state.
  • According to the percentage, 72.37% of the state is rural, whereas 27.63% of the population is urban.
  • State’s population growth rate (2001-2011) was 20.35%, in which rural population growth was 18.42% and urban growth was 25.69%.
  • State’s sex ratio is 931, in which 936 are rural and 918 in urban sex ratio.
  • The rural sex ratio of the state is 923 and 901 in urban sex ratio.
  • The number of rural literate people in the state is 2,82,81,986 while the number of urban literate people is 1,45,69,183
  • District of Bhopal (80.9%) is the district with the highest urban population, while district Dindori (4.6%) with minimum urban population percentage.
  • Out of the total male literacy (78.73%) of the state, rural male literacy is 74.74% and urban male literacy is 88.67%.
  • Similarly, 59.2% of the female literacy is 52.4% of rural female literacy and 76.5% of urban female literacy.
  • Madhya Pradesh’s rural literacy rate is 63.94%, while the urban literacy rate is 82.85%.
  • According to the 2011 census, Madhya Pradesh’s most populous district is Indore, whose population is 32,76,697, while the lowest population is in Harda district, which is 5,70,465.

Sex ratio

  • According to census, 2011 number of women over per thousand men is 931 that means the sex ratio of M.P. is 1000:931 while this figure is 919 in census 2001.
  • Balaghat is the maximum sex ratio district of the state where 1021 women over per thousand men while Bhind is the minimum sex ratio district in which only 837 women over per thousand men.

  • According to census 2011, population density of the state is 236 (in 2001 population density was 196).
  • Most population density of the state is district Bhopal (855), while minimum population density district is Dindori (94).
  • 5 districts having highest population density (in descending order) – – Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Murraya
  • 5 districts having  minimum population density (in ascending order) – – Dindori, Sheopur, Panna, Betul / Raisen / Seoni, Umaria
  • 5 districts having  highest population growth rate (in descending order) – Indore, Jhabua, Bhopal, Singrauli, Badwani
  • 5 districts having  minimum population growth rate (in ascending order) – – Anuppur, Betul, Chhindwara, Mandsaur, Balaghat
  • 5 districts having  minimum rural population growth rate (in ascending order) – – Mandsaur / Narsinghpur, Jabalpur, Neemuch, Betul, Balaghat
  • 5 districts having  highest urban population growth rate (in descending order) -, Raisen, Dhar, Mandla, Indore, Morena
  • 5 districts having lowest urban population growth rate (in ascending order) – – Anuppur, Burhanpur, Shahdol, Chhindwara, Panna
  • 5 districts having highest urbanization percentage in the state (in descending order) – – Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain
  • 5 districts having  minimum municipalization percentage (in ascending order) – Dindori, Alirajpur, Sidhi, Jhabua, Sivni

Scheduled Caste

  • According to the final statistics of the 2011 Census, the Scheduled Castes population in Madhya Pradesh is 1,13,42,320, of which 59,08,638 are males and 54,33,682 are females.
  • The Scheduled Caste population of the state is 15.6 percent of the total population of the state.

Scheduled Tribe

  • The Scheduled Tribe population of the state is 1,53,16,784, out of which 77,19,404 are males and 75,97,380 are females.
  • The number of Scheduled Tribes in the state is 21.1 percent of the total population of the state.
  • 5 districts having highest SC population (in descending order) – Indore, Ujjain, Sagar, Morena, Chhatarpur
  • 5 districts having minimum SC population (in ascending order) – Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dindori, Chhindwara, Umaria.
