Many PSUs in India recruit Civil Engineers through the GATE examination. PSUs like SAIL, NHPC, ONGC, NTPC, NPCIL, Coal India, Power Grid etc., have come up with a notification for Civil Engineers through the GATE examination. There are two approaches to recruiting applicants by PSUs for Civil Engineering through the GATE examination. The first is through a recruitment test conducted by the PSU company, and the second is through the GATE entrance exam.
The candidates who have opted for the GATE entrance exam have to qualify GATE cutoff for PSU, which is selected based on the number of vacancies. There are three categories of PSUs in India, divided based on investment policies and other characteristics. The classification of PSUs is as follows:
Navratnas: The Navratna PSUs are publicly listed under India’s Securities and Exchange Board. These PSUs have international and national. Navratnas PSUs’ turnover ranges from around 2,000 to 1 lakh crore INR. Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, and Power Grid Corporation of India are a few examples of Navratnas PSUs.
Maharatnas: The Maharatna PSUs are listed under Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). When compared to Navratna PSUs, Maharatna PSUs will have a medium turnover. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Indian Oil Corporation, and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation are a few examples of Maharatna PSUs.
Miniratnas: The Miniratna PSUs have less turnover when compared to Navratna PSUs and Maharatna PSUs. These are further classified into Miniratna Category-I PSUs and Miniratna Category-II PSUs. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Airports Authority of India and Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd. are a few examples of Miniratna PSUs.
