Navik (General Duty) has a job profile that closely resembles that of the Indian Coast Guard. The Indian Coast Guard Navik's key responsibilities are as follows:

  • In any maritime zone, ensuring the safety and security of artificial islands, offshore terminals, installations, and other structures and devices.
  • The Maritime Zones of India Act is being enforced.
  • Providing assistance and protection to fishermen in distress at sea.
  • Preservation and protection of our maritime environment, including marine pollution prevention and control.
  • Assisting Customs and other law enforcement agencies with anti-smuggling efforts.
  • Precautionary procedures and scientific data collecting for the safety of life and property at sea.

Indian Coast Guard Navik GD Training

  • Candidates who are chosen for Navik (General Duty) training spend 24 weeks at INS Chilka.
  • The GD Naviks are deputed for afloat training for three months after branch assignment at INS Chilka, followed by Cadre training.
  • The length of this training varies depending on the cadre and can last anywhere from 4-6 months.

Indian Coast Guard Promotion and Career Growth

Navik GDs in the Indian Coast Guard can advance to the rank of Pradhan Adhikari, with a pay grade of Rs. 47600/- (Pay Level 8) and Dearness Allowance. Candidates who enroll as Naviks (General Duty) can be promoted to Officers, however, promotion to the Officer cadre is contingent on the cadets' suitability and performance.
