What are the timings for the UG NLAT 2020?

1. Batch 1:

  • Reporting time: 12:00 pm
  • Exam Start Time: 12:30 pm
  • Exam End Time - 1:15 pm

2. Batch 2:

  • Reporting time: 1.45 pm
  • Exam Start Time: 2.15 pm
  • Exam End Time - 3:00 pm

3. Batch 3:

  • Reporting time: 3:30 pm
  • Exam Start Time: 4:00 pm
  • Exam End Time - 4:45 pm


  • 15 minutes extra will be given to PWD Candidates in accordance with the notification released on Sep 7, 2020.

Why separate test?

  • The notification issued by the University states that the decision to hold a separate test was keeping in view that NLSIU has a trimester system.

Zero Year’ with no admission

  • If NLSIU is unable to complete admissions before the end of September 2020 it will inevitably result in a ‘Zero Year’ with no admission.

NLAT Eligibility Criteria for Candidates

  • All candidates must have secured an unconditional pass and the minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent examination) as specified below:
  • The aggregate percentage of 45% or its equivalent grade in the case of General Category and PWD students.
  • The aggregate percentage of 40% or its equivalent grade in the case of SC/ST.

 Age limit

  • There is no upper age limit to apply.

Application Fee

  • Rs. 150 (General and PWD Category) and
  • Rs. 125 (for SC / ST Candidates).

NLAT Syllabus & Exam Pattern 2020

The NLAT 2020 UG will test candidates on 5 (five) subjects (and the published format of the CLAT 2020 UG) comprising,

  • English Language,
  • Current Affairs Including General Knowledge,
  • Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and
  • Quantitative Techniques

NLAT 2020

Total number of Qs - 40

Total number of  General Comprehension (GC) passages - 4 (four) 

Each GC passage will be accompanied by 10 (ten) questions.

The 10 (ten) questions that accompany each GC passage will have 2 (two) questions each from the 5 (five) subjects.

Each GC passage will be of a similar length (i.e., ~500 words)

All questions shall be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).

Duration of the exam - 45 minutes

Mode of Test - The Test shall be an online home-based Entrance Examination.

NLAT Marking Scheme:

  • 2 marks will be awarded to each correct answer
  • -0.25 marks will be deducted for each unanswered question
  • -0.50 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer

Important Note:

  • Candidates will only have 1 (one) attempt at each question.
  • They will not be able to revisit a question once they have moved on to another question.
