  • Do not waste a lot of time on any question that you get you are jammed in. This is especially to be kept in mind while solving questions of the reasoning section. If you are not able to solve any question for the time being but have a feeling that you can solve it, mark it for review, attempt the remaining questions and then do it later

3. Question Selection

  • Go for the less time-consuming topics first. These are -
  1. English Comprehension - Cloze test, spotting errors, fillers, vocab questions from RC, etc.
  2. General Awareness- As per your convenience (Avoid random guessings).
  3. Quantitative Aptitude - Number Series, Simplification/ Approximation, Data Interpretation, etc.
  4. General Intelligence and Reasoning - Syllogism, Inequality, Coding-Decoding, Blood relations, direction sense, etc.
  • If you are able to attempt a handsome number of questions in the first 20 minutes of the exam, you will have a psychological advantage and this is bound to boost your morale and confidence

4. Time Management & Speed

  • This is one of the most important factors to clear any competitive exam
  • Prelims exam is a test of time management, speed, and accuracy
  • Always aim to attempt the maximum number of questions with speed and accuracy
  • Attempt English and General awareness first, then go for reasoning and quant section.

Ideal Strategy to attempt the exam-

  1. Give 10 minutes each to the English and GA section
  2. Thereafter, quickly switch to Quant, attempt it in 20-22 minutes.
  3. Then finally go for reasoning in the remaining time (18-20 minutes)

5. Accuracy and Negative Marking

  • Accuracy plays a very vital role in your overall marks secured in any exam that follows the scheme of negative marking
  • This factor will play a determining role in the calculation of the overall score for the exam
  • Make sure that you attempt questions accurately since you'll end up losing more marks than you would score if you mark the wrong option
  • Every wrong answer can cost you 0.25 marks (1/4th of 2 marks) as a penalty, which in turn will have a bearing on the correctly marked answers

6. Stay Calm and positive

  • Do not panic if you come across any new pattern-based question in the exam or the questions that you are weak at, you still have plenty of questions ahead to score
