Who is Vivek Ram Chaudhari, the next Chief of Air Staff?
On 1st July, this year, Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari was named Vice Chief of Air Staff, the Air Force's second-highest position. Prior to this position, he had command, staff, and instructional positions at various levels.

Previous Work Experience:
- He had previously served as the Eastern Air Command's Senior Air Staff Officer and as the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff at Air Headquarters.
- Prior to becoming deputy chief in July, Chaudhari was the commander-in-chief of the Western Air Command, the IAF's largest air command, which is responsible for parts of both Pakistan and China's borders.
- The Western Air Command is also in charge of safeguarding Ladakh, where India and China have been locked in a 16-month standoff since May 2020.
- He was a member of the Contract Negotiating Committee for the Rafale warplanes agreement and later became one of the Indian Air Force's first pilots to fly the Rafale fighters.
- He has flown aircraft such as the MiG-21, MiG-23 MF, MiG 29, and Su-30 MKI fighter jets, totalling over 3,800 hours of flight time.
- He has also served as the commander of a frontline fighter squadron and a frontline fighter base.
His Graduation:
- Vivek Ram Chaudhari, a graduate of the National Defence Academy and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, has previously commanded a frontline fighter squadron and a fighter base.
- After graduation from the NDA (National Defence Academy), Air Marshal Chaudhari joined the Indian Air Force's fighter stream on 29th December 1982.
- He has also served as the Air Force Academy's Deputy Commandant, the Assistant Chief of Air Staff Operations (of Air Defence), and the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (of Personnel Officers).
What will he do after becoming Air Chief Marshall?
Following his appointment as Chief of Air Staff on September 30, Air Marshal Chaudhari will be in charge of a number of operational concerns in the Indian Air Force, as well as issues relating to India's new catheterization model of armed forces.
