Watts per meter-kelvin (Wm-1K-1) is the unit of thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity can be defined as the transportation of energy that is done due to the random movement of molecules. Such transportation is carried across the temperature gradient. Thermal conductivity can also be defined as the measure of a body’s ability to conduct heat. The symbol k represents this conductivity. There are two types of heat transfers that occur in thermal conductivity. When the heat transfer is transferred at a lower rate in any material it can be said as low thermal conductivity. When the heat transfer is transferred at a higher rate in any material it can be said as high thermal conductivity. It is obvious that heat transfer at a lower rate in materials of low thermal conductivity than in materials of high thermal conductivity. The reciprocal of thermal conductivity is called thermal resistivity.
