IISc Bangalore PhD Admission 2022: Eligibility Criteria
Candidates can check below the eligible criteria for PhD admission in various subjects as follows:
- Completed a 4-years bachelor’s degree or B.Tech in science, engineering or technology
- Masters's degree or M.Sc in Science, Business, Technology or Engineering
- Aggregate score (inclusive of Classes X, XII and graduation) should be a minimum of 50% or above.
- Students with bachelor’s in engineering B.E or B.Tech from centrally Funded Institutes should have at least 8.5 CGPA.
- A valid CSIR UGC-NET JRF or GATE score as of 2020/ 2021/ 2022.
IISc Bangalore PhD Admission 2022: Documents Required
Following are the documents required while applying online for IISc Bangalore:
- Mark sheets of Class X, XII, graduation and postgraduation from tier-I university or institute.
- In case the final semester certificates are unavailable, provisional certificates for all the semesters are a mandate for submission. However, the final certificate is mandatory during registration.
- Scanned image of passport-size photograph and signature.
- Scanned copies of caste certificates (if applicable) and domicile certificates as in the case of Kashmir valley residents
IISc Bangalore PhD Admission 2022: Selection Process
The IISc Bangalore selection procedure takes place in two stages. The candidates who got shortlisted will be called for an interview. The performance at the personal interview or PI decides the final selection of candidates. The details of the 2 procedures are as follows:
Shortlisting
For PhD programs at IISc Bangalore, students are shortlisted based on their previous academic performance, scores at the national level tests and publications they own for journals. Few facts that are considered for shortlisted candidates are described below:
- Consistent academic record, which includes:
- Class X and XII board examinations
- Grades or CGPA in Bachelor’s program or B.Tech
- Grades obtained in Master’s program or M.Sc/M.Tech
- Noteworthy academic accomplishments like research publications, scholarships or awards etc
- Ranks in national level examinations/tests
Final Selection
- Shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview or PI.
- In certain departments, the interview will be preceded by a written exam.
- Hence, the performance at the written exam, PI and records of national level entrance tests will lead to the final selection of PhD candidates.

How to Apply for IISc Bangalore PhD Admissions?
Students have the option to apply online for IISc Bangalore PhD programs. The steps explained are as follows:
- Visit the official website: iiisc.ac.in or click here
- Go to the 'Apply Online' button and click on it.

- You will be redirected to another page in another tab, where you will have to click on the ‘Apply to PG program’.

- Next, you have to register yourself with email and valid password.

- Enter all your personal details, including email id & mobile no. that are required for registration.

- Registration will require the user's email ID and password for verification purposes. This will allow the portal to communicate with the applicant through OTP.
- Once the registration is over, students can simply log in to the website and apply online.
- Enter all the personal details and educational details and upload the required documents. Make sure any field is not left blank or incomplete or else you will not be able to proceed.
- Click on 'Save and Proceed' button.
- Pay the required fee for application through net banking or debit/credit/visa master cards.
IISc Bangalore PhD Fees 2022
IISc Bangalore charges an amount of INR 15,000 for its PhD program per year as a tuition fee for general category and it is fully waived in case of SC/ST candidates. Please find below the IISc Bangalore PhD fee structure is given in the table below:

IISc Bangalore PhD Stipend 2022
IISc Bangalore gives monthy stipend of INR 25,000 to INR 28,000 to its PhD scholars or researchers. For the first two years, PhD scholars get INR 25,000 per month and INR 28,000 for the next three years. After five years of completion, they are eligible for a monthly financial assitance of INR 12,000 for one year. PhD candidates who do not avail hostel accommodation will be eligible for a house rent allowance (HRA) as per IISc norms and conditions.
