India lies in the Northern Hemisphere. The mainland of India lies between longitudes 68°7’E & 97°25’E & latitudes 8°4’N & 37°6’N. There are four hemispheres: the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western hemispheres. The Northern and Southern hemispheres of the Earth are separated by the Equator, or line of zero degrees latitude. The Prime Meridian and the International Dateline also split the planet into its eastern and western halves.

Indian Hemisphere

The two sides of the planet that are discernible on the globe are known as hemispheres. The four main hemispheres are the north, south, east, and west. The northern and eastern hemispheres are where India is located. East of the prime meridian and entirely north of the equator is where India is located (Greenwich line).

India’s location on earth is between 8°4’N and 34°6’N, according to latitude. At 68°7’E and 97°25’E, respectively, are India’s longitudinal points. Regarding the hemisphere, India is latitudinally located in the northern and longitudinally in the eastern hemispheres.

Latitudinally, India is in the Northern hemisphere, or the portion of the planet that lies north of the Equator (0°). India is longitudinally situated in the Eastern hemisphere, that portion of the planet east of the Prime Meridian or the Greenwich Line (0°).

  • The Indian mainland stretches between latitudes 8°4’N and 37°6’N from south to north.
  • India covers the longitudes of 68°7’E and 97°25’E from west to east.
  • There may be significant differences in local time between locations at India’s two extreme points because of the country’s large longitudinal span of around 29°.
  • As a result, there would be a two-hour delay between these two locations.
