The reaction involved is 2AgNO3 (aq) + Cu (s) → Cu(NO3)2 (aq) + 2Ag (s)

The metallic copper will dissolve to generate copper nitrate from the silver nitrate that is already in solution, precipitating the silver that is already in solution as metallic silver.

In other words, copper replaces silver in solution while silver is replaced by copper not in solution.

The resulting reaction is listed below:
