The distribution factor for the end span, on the fixed end side, is 0 in the moment distribution technique.

Distribution factor (D.F.)

The amount through which the applied moment is multiplied to produce any member’s final moment is called as the distribution factor (D.F.)

  • The ratio of a member’s stiffness to the total of all the stiffnesses (or relative stiffness sums) of the members joining at a joint is its numerical equivalent.

Distribution factor = member stiffness/ joint stiffness

  • Joint stiffness = Σ Member stiffness meeting at the joint
  • In a joint where several members are gathering, the sum of D.F. is one.

Absolute stiffness of that member:

The amount of moment (or force) required to generate one unit of rotation (displacement) at a joint is the stiffness of that member.

  • If a member’s farther end is hinged, its stiffness is equal to 3EI/L.
  • If a member’s farther end is free, its stiffness is equal to 0.
  • If a member’s farther end is fixed, its stiffness is equal to 4EI/L.
  • When the far end is a guided roller, the stiffness factor is EI/L.

Summary:-

In the Moment Distribution Method, the distribution factor for the end span, on the fixed end side is – 1. 0 2. 1/4 3. 1/2 4. 1

The distribution factor for the end span, on the fixed end side in the moment distribution method is 0
