Prokaryotic Cell Components
There are four main parts to prokaryotic cells:
- The plasma membrane, which isolates the cell from its surroundings, is a protective layer made of phospholipid molecules.
- Inside each cell is a jelly-like substance called cytoplasm. It contains every cell organelle in suspension.
- The genetic makeup of a cell is DNA. The circular DNA is present in all prokaryotes. It controls how the cell makes proteins. Additionally, it controls how the cell behaves.
- Protein synthesis takes place in ribosomes.
- Certain prokaryotic cells have cilia and flagella, which aid in movement.
