1. Jack of all trades but master of none –

Meaning –  Doing so many works without mastering even single

Meaning (Hindi) –
  हरफन मौला हरफन अधूरा

Example –  My younger brother is a jack of all trades but the master in none, so he is facing a hard time after his graduation.

2. Jail Bird

Meaning – Frequent Prisoner 

Meaning (Hindi) –  बार-बार कैद होने वाला 

Example – Jawahar Lal  Nehru was jail bird before India became an independent country.

3. Jaundiced Eyes

Meaning –  Jealous 

Meaning (Hindi) – पूर्वधारणा या ईर्ष्या

Example –  One who looks at others with a jaundiced eye can never be happy.

4. Jaywalk

Meaning –  Crossing the street (from the middle) without using the crosswalk 

Meaning (Hindi) –   रास्ता पार करने में लापरवाह होना

Example –  It’s not difficult to guess the cause of accidents when people tend to Jaywalk.

5. Jeer at

Meaning –  To make fun 

Meaning (Hindi) –   हँसी उड़ाना

Example –  The students jeered at the cheater when he tried to put his point.

6. Jot or tittle

Meaning – A very small amount/ A tiny portion of something.

Meaning (Hindi) –  छोटा सा हिस्सा

Example – You can’t make it big with jots or titles, you need a much bigger contract to survive in this industry.

7. Joshing me

Meaning –  to refer to someone joking with you or tricking with you.

Meaning (Hindi) –   मज़ाक करना

Example – Rahul said that he won the lottery, but actually he was just joshing me.

8. Jump at something

Meaning – Accept with enthusiasm/to accept something eagerly

Meaning (Hindi) – उत्सुकता से कुछ स्वीकार करना 

Example – He jumped at the chance to go to France on company business.

9. Jump on the bandwagon

Meaning –  If a person or organization jumps on the bandwagon, they decide to do something when it is already successful or fashionable. 

Meaning (Hindi) –  बहती गंगा में हाथ धोना

Example – When organic food became popular, certain stores were quick to jump on the bandwagon and promote it.

10. Jump the gun

Meaning – Do something before it’s time to do it 

Meaning (Hindi) –  जल्दबाजी करना

Example – Ramesh has the habit of jumping the gun.

11. Just deserts

Meaning –  That which one deserves, especially a punishment or unfavourable outcome/receive what one deserves, especially appropriate punishment.

Meaning (Hindi) –  पात्र को उपयुक्त सजा मिलना 

Example – Those who caused great trouble to others rarely got their just deserts.

12. Jump to the conclusion

Meaning – Decide something too quickly and without thinking about it 

Meaning (Hindi) – बिना सोचे समझे सीधे निष्कर्ष पर आ जाना 

Example – Jumping the conclusion may harm in the long run.

13. Just in case

Meaning –  In the event that something does or does not happen

Meaning (Hindi) – अगर ऐसा हो जाए तो/शायद ज़रुरत पड़े

Example –  Be sure to set two alarms, just in case the first one doesn’t go off.

14. Jumbled up

Meaning – To mix some things up in a random, confused, or disorderly manner

Meaning (Hindi) – उलझा देना

Example – The toddler jumbled up the important papers of the meeting.

15. Jack around

Meaning – To waste time.

Meaning (Hindi) – समय बर्बाद करना

Example – The work must be done before sunset, so stop jacking around and let’s get the work done.

16. Jack in

Meaning – To stop doing a regular activity. Often a job or studies.

Meaning (Hindi) – एक नियमित गतिविधि करना बंद करना  

Example –  My sister is going to jack her job in after marriage.

17. Jack up

Meaning –  To raise, hoist, or lift a thing using a jack, or similar means/To raise, increase, or accelerate; often said of prices, fees, or rates. See also jack up the price.

Meaning (Hindi) –  बढ़ाना

Example –  He jacked the car up to change the tire.
                  The government is going to jack up the price of gasoline again.

18. Jazz up

Meaning –  To make gaudy, more attractive and bright.

Meaning (Hindi) –  रोचक बनाना

Example – My mother jazzed up our living room with new furniture.

19. Jerk Around

Meaning –  To treat badly and take advantage of someone, to act foolishly.

Meaning (Hindi) – बुरी तरह से व्यवहार करना/मूर्ख बनाना 

Example -: Stop jerking me around and tell me the truth.

20. Jerk off

Meaning – To waste time doing nothing.

Meaning (Hindi) – कुछ भी न करके समय बर्बाद करना|

Example -: You must stop jerking off now as we have to complete it soon.

21. Jot down

Meaning – to write down hurriedly;

Meaning (Hindi) – संक्षेप में लिख देना

Example -: Let me jot down your details on this paper so as not to forget it.

22. Juice up

Meaning – To charge, to charge up

Meaning (Hindi) – चार्ज करना

Example -: I need to juice up my phone because the battery is dead.

 23. Jump in

Meaning – To enter something quickly.

Meaning (Hindi) –

Example -:   I jumped in the car, and we sped off to the meeting.
                    Feel free to jump in at any moment while we are talking.

24. Jump off

Meaning –   To move from an elevated place by one jump./To be very noticeable, interesting, exciting in a writing painting, picture etc.

Meaning (Hindi) – एक ऊंचे स्थान से एक कूदना / बहुत ही ध्यान देने योग्य होना 

Example -:   The cat jumped off the wall.  
                    The story is so realistic that the characters jump off the page.

25. Jump on

Meaning –  To board a public transport vehicle./To attack someone verbally, or criticise them for small errors.

Meaning (Hindi) – सार्वजनिक परिवहन वाहन से जाना ./ किसी पर मौखिक रूप से हमला  करना या छोटी त्रुटियों के लिए  आलोचना करना 

Example -:  I jumped on the bus and went to the theatre.
                   He’s always jumping on his son for the slightest little mistake.

26. Jump out at

Meaning –  To be immediately noticeable/have a strong visual or mental impact; be very striking.

Meaning (Hindi) – तत्काल ध्यान देने योग्य

Example -: The idea behind the intelligently drawn picture jumps at you when you see it.
