1. Mad as a hatter
Meaning – someone who is very strange or insane/ Crazy or deranged; particularly eccentric.
Meaning (Hindi) – सिरफिरा
Example – The old lady became mad as a hatter because of all the horrible things she saw some years back.
2. Make a beeline for something
Meaning – to hurry directly towards something
Meaning (Hindi) – जल्दी से किसी की ओर जाना
Example – Children were so hot and thirsty after playing the football that they made a beeline for the water.
3. Make the best of things
Meaning – to react in a positive way to an unsatisfactory situation that you cannot change and do the best you can with it.
Meaning (Hindi) – असंतोषजनक स्थिति में सकारात्मक तरीके से प्रतिक्रिया देना और सर्वोत्तम संभव तरीके से निपटना
Example – The apartment was badly located, but the rent was low, so they decided to stay there and make the best of things.
4. Make one’s blood run cold
Meaning – To cause one to feel frightened or unnerved/Something or someone that shocks or scares you a lot.
Meaning (Hindi) – हाथ-पैर ठंडे पड़ना
Example – That gruesome scene in the new horror movie made our blood run cold.
5. Make no bones about something
Meaning – to say something in a frank and open way without hesitating/To be transparent about something, without any equivocation
Meaning (Hindi) – ज़रा भी नहीं हिचकिचाना
Example – The Prime Minister makes no bones about having come from a poor family.
6. Make the cut
Meaning – to reach a required standard or succeed in passing from one round of a competition to another.
Meaning (Hindi) – एक आवश्यक मानक तक पहुंचने के लिए किसी प्रतियोगिता के एक दौर से दूसरे में जाकर सफल होना
Example – After intensive training of two years, Riya made the cut and joined the cricket team.
7. Make your ears burn
Meaning – to feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, or disconcerted by hearing something
Meaning (Hindi) – कुछ सुनकर शर्मिंदा होना
Example – When the result came, listening to the comments of my aunts and uncles made my ears burn.
8. Make ends meet
Meaning – If you find it difficult to pay for your everyday needs because you have very little money, it is hard for you to make ends meet.
Meaning (Hindi) – गुजारा करना
Example – Rakesh’s salary is so low that he finds hard to make ends meet in a metro city.

Meaning – to horrified someone
Meaning (Hindi) – भयभीत करना
Example – The flood scenes of the city made my flesh creep.

Meaning – To earn enough income to support oneself

Meaning – Seemingly useless
Meaning (Hindi) – बेकार

Meaning – Vacate
Meaning (Hindi) – बाहर निकलना, खाली करना
Example – The crowd started to maove out of the area about midnight.
17. Mean Business
Meaning – Be serious/To be grave and resolute; to be serious about what one is promising or proposing to do
Meaning – गंभीर और दृढ़ करना
Example: The manager sounded like she means business, so you better complete this project on time.
18. Meet halfway
Meaning – To compromise/To compromise with someone, often in an argument or disagreement.
Meaning – समझौता करन ा, अक्सर एक तर्क या असहमति में
Example -: I‘ll agree to some of your requests if you’ll meet me halfway and allow me to implement some of my ideas.

Meaning – behave in a silly or playful way.

Meaning – To lose the chance or opportunity to do or experience something

Meaning – approach, especially so as to take action.

22. Muck up
Meaning – to do something badly and fail to achieve goal.

23. Mum’s the word
Meaning – To keep something secret
Meaning (Hindi): चुप्पी साधना
Example -: I don’t want to spoil the surprise for the little boy so please tell everyone that mum’s the word.

Meaning – to succeed in doing something even though you haven’t got the skills or equipment usually needed.
Meaning (Hindi) – सफल होना
Example -: Our coach was sick, so I had to train the team myself. I’d never done it before but I muddled through somehow and it wasn’t too bad.
25. Mull Over
Meaning –to think carefully about something before making a decision
Meaning (Hindi) – निर्णय लेने से पहले विचार करना
Example -: Before deciding which job to accept, she said she needed a couple of days to mull over her options.
