Why EPD?

• Lack of entrepreneurs/industries in the electronic products segment
• Tech start-up in electronic product discipline is very limited
• Push towards entrepreneurship and self-reliance (atmanirbhar Bharat scheme) in electronic product design

What is EPD?

• You will learn about IoT, embedded systems, analog electronics, digital electronics, mechatronics, power aspects, electronic packaging, microfabrication, communication networks, industrial design, thermal design, product design, go-to-market projects, entrepreneurship, and tech start-up aspects

Important Dates

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates having a minimum of 2nd Class or equivalent in a bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Communication, Mechatronics, Instrumentation 
• Or, BE /B Tech equivalent examinations of Professional Societies, recognized by MoE/UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institutions of Engineers), possessing a valid GATE 2019 / 2020 / 2021 score, are eligible to apply. Note:
  
  • Candidates are only eligible to apply if they are enrolled up to 31st May 2013 with professional societies(e.g. AMIE) recognized by MoE/UPSC/AICTE 
  • Candidates having the educational qualification, including those in the final semester/year of their qualifying examinations, but expect to complete all the requirements for the award of the degree (like examinations, project dissertation, viva-voce etc.) by 31 July 2021, and can furnish the necessary certificates on and before 31.10.2021 are eligible to apply
• Eligible GATE papers:
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering(EC)
  • Electrical Engineering (EE)
  • Instrumentation Engineering(IN)
  • Mechanical Engineering(ME)
• Area of Study: Electronic Product Design

Selection Procedure

• Applicants will be initially shortlisted based on their performance in the National Entrance Test and/or the qualifying degree. And the final selection will be based on 70%GATE + 30% Career Marks. 
  • CAM*: means figure of Merit based on 10th/12th/UG academic performance
  • 30 % CAM weightage is as follows : 10th : 6%; 12th : 6%; UG : 18 %
  • [ (GPA/Max GPA) * 100]: This formula is used to convert GPA to %.

Application Fee

• General / OBC / EWS: Rs.800
• SC / ST / PwD / Differently abled person: Rs.400

Scholarships

• All the students are eligible for a scholarship as per the details mentioned.
• For meritorious students, scholarships are available from many Indian and multinational agencies.

How to apply

• To apply online visit the official website of IISc Bangalore
• Admission offers for the Electronic Product Design (EPD) programme will be made directly to the applicants on the IISc admission portal as this program has been initiated only this year. From the following year, offers will be made on Common Offer Acceptance Portal(COAP).

Note:

• Candidates who have already accepted a seat in one of the MTech/MDes/MMgt programmes of the Institute may also apply to this new MTech programme, provided they satisfy the eligibility conditions of this MTech programme.
• In case they are selected for admission to this new MTech programme, they will be given an option to either switch to this new MTech programme or not. Fee adjustment will be made and any excess fee will be refunded.
