IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University),  IGNOU offers programme under two categories- part time and full time. The programmes are offered in 28 disciplines in 16 different Schools . The exam is conducted twice a year. Interested candidates can apply for the programme through online mode online. NTA is the exam conducting body. Candidates are required to visit ignouexams.nta.nic.in for filling the form.

  • Mode of payment is through Credit/Debit card/ Net banking/UPI and Paytm


  • Only those candidates who possess a master degree with 55% marks in relevant discipline from a recognised university.
  • 5% of relaxation in marks is given to SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/Differently-Abled category candidates.
  • Entrance Test is compulsory for all students applying for Phd programme

Examination process

  • Admission to Phd programme is conducted through written test followed by interview.
  • The Syllabus consist of research methodology(50% weightage) and subject specific knowledge (50% weightage).
  • Question paper will consist 100 question. Each question carrying having four options and no negative marking.
  • Entrance test weightage is 70% and interview weightage is 30%.
  • Written test followed by the interview. Only those candidates selected from the written test will be called for interview.

Phd at IGNOU

  • IGNOU offers PHD under two categories-part time and full time.
  • Both categories of students are required to attend classes if course work is allotted to them. 
  • Minimum duration of Phd-3 years and Maximum- 6 years. Relaxation of 2 years to women candidates and person with disabilities.
  • Phd programme will consist of course work conducted in the first six months. Course will be conducted in Delhi only. It is compulsory to attend course work with minimum of 80% attendance.
