If V is the design speed in kmph and R is the radius of the curve of a hill road, the super-elevation is

  1. e=V/127R
  2. e=V2/127R
  3. e=V/225R
  4. e=V2/225R

Answer: 4– e=V2/225R

If V is the design speed in kmph and R is the radius of the curve of a hill road, the super-elevation is e = V2/225R

Solution

We know that equation of centrifugal ratio is,

P/V2/127R=e+f

Where,

  • P is the centrifugal force acting on the vehicle
  • W is the weight of the vehicle
  • V is the design speed in kmph
  • R is the radius of the curve
  • e is the superelevation
  • f is the coefficient of lateral friction

As per IRC, provide superelevation to counteract centrifugal force due to 75% of design speed by neglecting the coefficient of lateral friction

e = (0.75V)2/127R

e = V2/225R
