If the point (3, 4) lies on the graph of the equation 3y = ax + 7, the value of a is 5/3. A mathematical definition of an equation is a claim that two expressions are equal when they are joined by the equals sign (“=”). Now we have to determine a value:

It is given that 3y = ax + 7 is in linear equation form and (3, 4) satisfies the equation.

Consequently, upon replacing, the above equation will satisfy x = 3 and y = 4

3 (4) = a (3) + 7

On simplifying:

12 = 3a + 7

On rearranging:

3a = 5

therefore:

a = 5/3
