Meaning -   to expand, to make progress, or obtain more success, popularity, importance, or acceptance.

Meaning (Hindi) -
 कामयाबी हासिल करना

Example -  In a short period,  my cousin's food delivery startup is gaining ground in India.

2. Gall and wormwood

Meaning - something hateful/Strong feelings of bitterness and resentment.

Meaning (Hindi) -   घृणायुक्त

Example - Nonveg dish is gall and wormwood to me as I am a pure vegetarian.

3. Give someone a piece of mind

Meaning - To tell someone how one feels, often while expressing anger or frustration

Meaning (Hindi) -   साफ साफ कह देना

Example His uncle gave him a piece of mind when he tried to steal the chocolate from the shop.

 4. Get a kick out of something

Meaning - Find something amusing/To get a lot of enjoyment or excitement from something. 

Meaning (Hindi) -  कुछ मनोरंजक पाना 

Example - I get a kick out of the travel to my wishlist places.

5. Get a word in edgeways

Meaning -  To contribute to a conversation with people who are very talkative/contribute to a conversation with difficulty because the other speaker talks incessantly.

Meaning (Hindi) - बीच में कहना

Example -  The girl was talking so much in the meeting that nobody else could get a word in edgeways.

6. Give a wide berth

Meaning - To remain away 

Meaning (Hindi) -  सुरक्षित दूरी पर रहना

Example - You should give a wide berth to bad habits.

7. Get back at someone/Get even

Meaning - Get revenge on 

Meaning (Hindi) - बदला लेना

Example - When the player made him fall on the ground, he decided to get back at him.

Meaning -  To become serious about something 

Meaning (Hindi) - मूल मुद्दों पर विचार करना

Meaning - Power of eloquence

Meaning - To sacrifice each and everything 

Meaning (Hindi) - कड़ी कठिन चुनौतियों का सामना

Example -  Our ancestors went through fire and water to give us this freedom which we are enjoying today.

12. Go the whole hog

Meaning - Do something completely or thoroughly 

Meaning (Hindi) -  किसी कार्य को ठीक प्रकार सम्पन्न करना

Example - Her parents went the whole hog in their effort to make the ceremony memorable.

13. Go out on a limb

Meaning - To take a risk 

Meaning (Hindi) - जोखिम लेना 

Example -: It's necessary to go out on a limb if you want to do something markable in life.

14. Get the better of someone

Meaning - overcame someone

Meaning (Hindi) - मात कर देना

Example -: Indian team could have beaten the Australian team in last week's game, but they just got the better of us from the start.

15. Gravy train

Meaning -  A job or work that pays more than it is worth 

Meaning (Hindi) - सुलभ पैसा

Example -: For many years this job was a real gravy train but now the company has become very strict and will not pay overtime. 

16. Grease your palm

Meaning - Give a tip, pay for a special favor or extra help, bribe 

Meaning (Hindi) - रिश्वत देना

Example -: The manager was greasing his palm at the company until he was finally fired. 

17. Greek to one

Meaning - Something which one do not understand 

Meaning (Hindi) - समझ ना आने योग्य 

Example -:  Hindi Language is is all Greek to my south Indian friend.

18. Green-eyed monster

Meaning -  Jealous 

Meaning (Hindi) - ईर्ष्या

Example -: The prosperity of his friend aroused the green-eyed monster in him.

19. Grow on someone

Meaning - Appeal more and more to 

Meaning (Hindi) - अधिक से अधिक लुभाना

Example -: I am growing on this beautiful home and want to own it.

20. Go back on

Meaning - not keep one’s word, promise, etc.

Meaning (Hindi) - वादा तोड़ना

Example -: I know Rahul since childhood, he will never go back on his promises.

21. Go off 

Meaning - begin, start/become angry/explode

Meaning (Hindi) -  शुरू करना / गुस्सा होना / विस्फोट होना 

Example - 

  • The alarm clock went off at 6 am.
  • My brother went off when he got to know that his sister had broken his camera.
  • The bomb went off with a loud noise.

22. Go through/Go through with

Meaning - Study carefully/ Proceed with something difficult.

Meaning (Hindi) - ध्यान से अध्ययन करना/मुश्किल सहना 

Example - 

  • You have to go through these deal papers before making it final.
  • In life, everyone gets through difficulties, all that matters is how smartly you overcome them.

23. Ginger up

Meaning - to either get excited. enthusiastic behavior/to make someone else excited or enthusiastic.

Meaning (Hindi) - उत्साहित होना या करना 

Example - When the students heard about their tour to the hill station, they gingered up.

Meaning - Move from place to place.

Meaning -  Be on good terms; work well with.

Meaning (Hindi) - मिलजुल कर रहना

Example - It is important to get along well with your in-laws.

26. Get across

Meaning - to manage to make someone understand or believe something/communicates ones' ideas

Meaning (Hindi) - सफलतापूर्वक समझा पाना

Example -  The students tried hard to get their point across to the principal, but he did not listen.

27. Get around(round)

Meaning -  to find a way of dealing with a problem or of avoiding it

Meaning (Hindi) - छुटकारा पाना

Example - You can't get around paying taxes due to new strict rules.

28. Getaway

Meaning -  escape

Meaning (Hindi) -  फरार होना

Example -  The dacoits were able to get away due to the fault of police officers.

29. Get away with

Meaning - do something against the rules and still not get caught

Meaning (Hindi) - बच जाना

Example -  As the politician is very influential, he gets away with everything.

30. Get by

Meaning - manage with difficulty to live or accomplish something/survive without the necessities

Meaning (Hindi) - बुनियादी जरूरतों के बिना जीवन चलाना 

Example - He doesn’t earn enough to get by.

31. Get down to

Meaning -begin to do or give serious attention to.

Meaning (Hindi) - गंभीरता से ध्यान देना

32. Get Through

Meaning -  to finish dealing with some work, a subject, etc/pass or assist someone in passing (a difficult or testing experience or period).

Meaning (Hindi) -  काम पूरा करना, कठिनाई के समय सहायता करना
