The ICMR JRF exam will have only one paper consisting of three sections. Section A consists of questions related to general aptitude, general knowledge and natural phenomena. Section A is compulsory for all candidates. There will be 50 questions in this section. The other two sections (B and C) are topic-specific sections. Section B refers to the life sciences and Section C to the social sciences. Applicants must choose one of the sections between B and C. These sections have 100 questions each, and 75 questions need to be attempted only. If candidates attempt all the 100 questions, then the only first 75 questions will be considered for the marking. The exam duration is 2 hours, and a total of 125 questions need to be attempted.

  • ICMR conducts a national level examination for determining the eligibility of Indian National candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) through the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It allows you to join ICMR as JRF to pursue your PhD degree.

  • There are 3 sections in the ICMR JRF exam, Section A, which is the General Aptitude section, compulsory for all. Section B is for Life Science students who wanted JRF fellowship for Life Sciences subjects while Section C is for Social Science students who wanted JRF fellowship for Social Science subjects. A candidate has to choose 1 section to attempt between Section B and Section C.

  • Yes, there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

  • The minimum eligibility criteria is that a candidate must have M.Sc./M.A. or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks for General/OBC candidates and 50% for the SC/ST, Physically Handicapped (PH) & Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates.
