Defense aspirant turned banker
My name is Vibek Kumar Singh. I am from Jharkhand and I have done my graduation in B.Sc (Chemistry Hons.) from Birsa College Khunti in 2015. Unfortunately, in 2015, I met with an accident after which all my dream to join defense got broken. As I was NCC Senior Officer in my college, I had an opportunity to directly face SSB. Everyone was sure about me to join defense as an officer. Day and night. I dream of it. Never thought of anything except defense. But all thing changed after that accident.
Now I have to select another career option. I was confused about what to choose either higher studies or only competitive examination. I choose M.sc plus preparation of competitive exams but after 2 months I had to undergo surgery of my leg. I left M.sc and started preparing only for competitive exams. I started preparation for both SSC and Banking.
I never thought of banking sector before 2016. My friends motivated me to prepare for banking. It took almost 3 years to get a government job. I have given more than 40 competitive exams (pre+ mains).
Reasons it took three years:
1. I was least interested in banking
2. Don't know what to do bank, ssc or any other exam (I wrote many exams from JPSC to SSC CHSL)
3. Weak base (I was not much interested in study but the favourite student of many teachers).
4. Not consistent with the study
In January 2016, I found BYJU'S Exam Prep. Only a few members were there in BYJU'S Exam Prep at that time. For the last three years, I am using this fruitful app. It play a major role in getting bank PO job. I read lots of success stories in it. I attempted regular quizes on a daily basis. For the last 1 year, my days starts and ends with it. Whenever I have a doubt I shared it in BYJU'S Exam Prep. I got many good friends in BYJU'S Exam Prep. If you solve all short mocks of BYJU'S Exam Prep and adda247 daily, success is not far from you.
MATHS: I was that kind of student who always failed in maths at the school level. Pass marks was like a dream come true. I was least interested in maths that's why it was the biggest hurdle for me. I searched maths books in the internet I got 2 common names in every site i.e, Quicker maths by M.Tyra and Rs agarwal. Mtyra helps me a lot. It took time because I have to start my maths from zero level. I solved all Questions from the book and make notes of formulae which i found during my preparation. I give daily mocks on BYJU'S Exam Prep and adda247 regularly and analyse it. I watched many youtube videos of adda247, amar sir etc. DI was my strongest point.
CURRENT AFFAIRS- BANKING- STATIC: If you want to get your name in the final list this section plays a very crucial role. I give daily half an hour for this section. I wrote BYJU'S Exam Prep daily gk update only points which were important plus extra information like static gk. I analyse previous year questions and make a copy in which I divide various sections like sports, appointments, defense Excercise, ministry etc. I also followed the affairs cloud. Study IQ monthly best 200 questions (15 days 100 questions) is best for revision. Watch this videos twice .
Banking: BYJU'S Exam Prep daily 10 questions of banking awareness is also very helpful. Whatever I found new I wrote it on my banking copy. Before the exam, i revise from it BYJU'S Exam Prep friends and their quizzes also helped me.
Static: BYJU'S Exam Prep short quizzes, BYJU'S Exam Prep guru quizes helped me a lot. Make notes of static gk like lakes, national parks , dams etc.
Reasoning: I started Reasoning from the book "a new approach to reasoning" but that not helped me much in banking. I solved previous years questions, took quizes of BYJU'S Exam Prep and adda but in puzzle i always took more time than average students, I practiced a lot from Oliveborad mains test series. I watched Radhey sir and akansha mam video. Practice is the key to score high in reasoning. Practice all level of puzzles & seating arrangement within time.
English: I was average in English not too good not too bad. Grammar was my weakest point and Reading comprehnsion was my strongest point. I watched lots of videos on English grammar. I also purchased the SP Bakshi book. There is one app" U.PSC " which helped me in reading comprenshion, I read daily current affairs, editorial and essay section on a daily basis, my morning starts with this app. For vocab, I read word power made easy, during reading editorials I make notes of some important words with thier meaning. Now a days reading is important to succeed in the English section.
Descriptive: First, try to do some typing practice because in 30 min you have to write both letter and essay. I got 19 out of 25 in descriptive.
Essay: I was watching study IQ current topic videos that help me in writing good content. Reading editorial also helped me. Practice by writing 4 to 5 essay before the exam.
Letter: You must know the format of a formal and informal letter. This way, your 75% task will be completed.
Interview: Greet them warmly with a smile. Be confident, Eye to eye contact is very important, some people say they don't check your knowledge but they are wrong. Without knowledge, how can you answer their questions confidently? Your behavior towards interviewer is also important . Don't argue with them. Greet them with a smile while leaving the room.
Prelims is all about knowledge speed and accuracy. Mains is all about how you apply that knowledge .
In IBPS PO VIII, I choose mains pre mains approach. First prepared for mains then prelims again mains after prelims.
Practice from the mock test is very important. I purchased different mock tests for different exams BYJU'S Exam Prep , Oliveborad, testbook, adda247, practice mock. Please analyse mock and make sure you don't do the same mistake again .
I got failures in more than 40 exams (mention only 38 )this ibps po was do or die situation for me. My mother is always there to support me. She always says "tum to mehnat kar hi rhe ho, ho jayega, especially my uncle (mother's bother) who always supported my decision. My friends who were always there to help me during my accident and my preparation every time . All of them are already in banking. I was the last one in my friends circle to get the government job. The journey was long, lots of negative thoughts come into my mind but my parents and friends helped me to overcome it. Sometimes I share my tension with BYJU'S Exam Prep Friends and they motivate me that I will achieve success this time.
