(ii) By decreasing 140 by 18% we get 114.8
(i) Increase 180 by 25%
New value = 180 + 180 x 25/100
= 180 + 45
On simplifying we get
= 225
(ii) Decrease 140 by 18%
New value = 140 – 126/5
= 140 – 25.2
On simplifying we get
= 114.8

Formula of Percentage
We must divide the value by the entire value to find the percentage, and then multiply the resulting number by 100.
Percentage formula = (Value/Total value) × 100
How to find the percentage of a number?
We must apply a different formula, like the one shown below, to determine the percentage of a number.
P% of Number = X
where X = required percentage.
If the % symbol is removed, the formulas above must be expressed as;
P/100 x Number = X
Percentage increase and decrease
The original number is subtracted from the new number, divided by the original number, then multiplied by 100 to get the % increase.
% increase = [(New number – Original number)/Original number] x 100
where,
increase in number = New number – original number
Summary:-
(i) Increase 180 by 25%. (ii) Decrease 140 by 18%.
(i) By increasing 180 by 25% we get 225 and (ii) By decreasing 140 by 18% we get 114.8
