  • Average  = (Sum of all the values/Number of values)
  • Ratio = Comparison of likes terms in their simplest terms.

Question: 1 The number of employees working in the marketing department of Company B is what percent of the total number of employees of the same company?

A. 30
B. 28
C. 23
D. 32
E. None of these

The answer is B. 

Number of employees working in the marketing department of Company B = 700
Total number of employees of Company B

= 750 + 500 + 700 + 350 + 200
= 2500
Required % = 700/2500 X 100 = 28%

Question 2: What is the respective ratio of the total number of employees working in the administrative departments of both companies to the total number of employees working in the Finance departments of both companies?

A. 2:3
B. 4:3
C. 3:2
D. 3:4
E. None of these

The answer is D. 

Total number of employees of administration in both companies
= 400 + 200 = 600
Total number employees of finance in both companies = 450 + 350 = 800
Required ratio = 600/800 = 3:4

Question 3: The number of employees working in the HR department of Company A is approximately what percent of the number of employees working in the Finance department of Company B?

A. 44

Number of employees working in HR in Company A = 800
Number of employees working in finance in Company B = 350
Required % = (800/350) X 100 = 228.5% = 229%

Question 4: If the number of employees working in the IT department of Company B is increased by 20% then what will be the difference between the number of employees working in the IT department of Company B and the Administration department of Company A?

A. 500
B. 350
C. 700
D. 400
E. None of these

The answer is A. 

Number of employees working in IT of Company B after 20% increase = 750 X (120/100) = 900
Number of employees working in the administration of Company A = 400
Required difference = 900 – 400 = 500

Question 5: What is the difference between the average number of employees working in all the departments of Company A and the average number of employees working in the IT, Marketing, and Finance departments of Company B?

A. 30
B. 25
C. 20
D. 15
E. None of these

The answer is E. 

The average number of employees working in all the departments of Company A = (550+800+850+450+400)/5 = 3050/5 = 610

The average number of employees working in IT, Marketing, and Finance departments of Company B = (750+700+350)/3 = 600

Required difference = 610 − 600 = 10
