How to Crack Airforce Group X & Y Exam in First Attempt?

The notification for Air force Group ‘X’ and ‘Y’ is out. This exam is very popular among candidates who have cleared 10+2, as it offers the gateway to join Air Force at a fairly young age.

As the notification mentions, Group ‘X’ exam will consist of English, Physics, and Maths of 10+2 level and the time duration is of 60 minutes. Similarly, Group ‘Y’ will consist of English, Reasoning and General Awareness and time duration will be 45 minutes.

Candidates opting for both will group ‘X’ and Group ‘Y’ will have to give papers of English, Physics, Maths, Reasoning and General Awareness.

After qualifying written exam candidates will have to qualify physical which will consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 6min 30 sec, 10 push ups, 10 sit ups, and 20 squats. Candidates successfully completing all these tasks will be eligible for Medical examinations.

Strategy to Crack Airforce Group X & Y Exam in First Attempt

The Airforce Group X & Y exam consists of 3 hurdles out of which the first 2 required elaborate planning and preparation. Now here we will discuss the solid strategy to clear the Air Force Group X & Y in the first attempt.

Let’s now talk about the preparation of each subject.

1. English:

English is asked in both Group X and Y. The questions generally are asked from Comprehension, Synonym/Antonym, Error detection, Jumbled sentence, Active/Passive voice.

Technique:

To improve these, one needs to develop the command to read. Reading Newspaper is one of the most important boons to you as it not only improves your current affairs knowledge but also enhances your vocabulary.

Note down important words that you read and know their meanings as this would help you in one-word substitution, Synonym, and Antonym.

Attempting mock papers and quizzes of the exam would also assist you in scoring good marks.

Books like Wren & Martin and Raymond Murphy would help you make your English grammar error-free.

2. Physics:

The Physics subject is only applicable to candidates who would be appearing for Air Force Group ‘X’ only. The syllabus includes all the concepts that are covered in class 11th and 12th. There are two types of questions asked in Physics – Theoretical and Numerical. So a better understanding, as well as application knowledge, is required.

Technique:

Major focus while preparing for Physics section should be on topics like Thermodynamics, SHM, Semiconductor, Electricity, Electrostatics are few from which questions are asked consistently and are also easy to cover.

The best book for preparation is 11th and 12th NCERT textbooks.

3. Maths:

The Maths subject is also applicable to those who are appearing for Group X only.

Technique:

While preparing for this subject special focus should be on Trigonometry, coordinate geometry, complex numbers, matrices and determinants, differentiation, integration, differential equation, probability and permutation, and combination.

Speed would be a major factor while solving this subject. Questions asked are moderate in nature so the key lies in practicing each type of questions. One of the most important books for preparation is RS Aggarwal.

Make sure to solve all the examples in this book as it will provide ample practice for each variation of questions.

As time is very limited one should be very clear in maths as to what questions one should attempt and what question one should leave. This will also ensure that you don’t lose marks because of negative marking.

4. Reasoning and General Awareness:

The Reasoning & General Awareness subject is applicable to those who are appearing for Group Y only.

Technique for GA:

For General awareness, one should refer to Lucent as this offer concise and reliable information.

For current affair newspaper reading and referring to monthly magazine current affairs gist is also important.

Technique for Reasoning:

For reasoning, one should refer to the book by Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by RS Aggarwal. This book is more than sufficient for the practice of different questions which may come in the exam.

5. Physical Test:

After qualifying written one has to pass physical test also. Of all the activities mentioned above, running 1.6km in 6 min 30 sec is the most strenuous one. You need to devote at least 1 hour each day for a total of 30 days to be able to clear the physical test.

To develop stamina, one must devote at least 30 min in the morning and then 30 min for other exercises. If one is not used to running then it may take a while but consistency is the key to complete 1.6km in under 6 minute and 30 seconds. Besides these 10 push-ups, 10 sit ups and 20 squats are not very tough for any physically fit candidate.
