Calculation of Marks for UPPSC General Studies Paper 1

Here is how you can calculate marks in UPPSC GS Paper 1.

  • Correct answers 120 x 1.33 = 159.60 marks.
  • Each incorrect answer carries a negative marking of 1/3rd mark, which means for every wrong answer 0.44 marks will be deducted.
  • Therefore, in the above example if 30 questions were answered incorrectly then the negative marking for 30 incorrect answers would be 30 x 0.44 = 13.20.
  • As a result, 13.20 marks would be deducted from the correctly answered questions.
  • i.e., Final Score for General Studies Paper-I: 159.60 – 13.20 = 146.40

FAQs on Calculation of UPPSC Prelims Marks

  • To calculate the UPPSC Prelims marks, candidates will have to follow a simple calculation formula as mentioned above. Aspirants can calculate their marks by using the following formula:

Total marks obtained by the Aspirant = (Number of correct answers X 1.33 - Number of Incorrect answers X 0.44).

  • Every correct answer carries a positive 1.33 mark whereas every wrong answer has a negative ⅓ mark. The ⅓ rd of the total marks allotted to every wrong answer is taken as a negative mark subtracted from the grand total.

  • There will be no mark deduction for a question that will be left un-attempted. For others that are attempted incorrectly, a deduction of 1/3rd of the total marks will be done.

  • Paper 1 will decide the Cut off marks and Paper 2 will be qualifying in nature. The candidates need to score 33% marks in paper 2. There will be a negative marking of 0.33% for each wrong answer.

  • A candidate needs to score a minimum of 66 marks (33% of the total marks) in the CSAT paper for qualification.
