The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. There are a total of 22 universities participating in CLAT each year. Participating universities provide entry testing for both UG and PG programs through CLAT. Students who were preparing for CLAT are now able to improve their preparation in order to increase their scores and secure accommodation at higher law colleges. UG CLAT 2023 will focus on testing the understanding and thinking abilities and skills of appearing candidates.

CLAT 2023: Pattern for UG Course

CLAT 2023 will be a 2-hour test, consisting of 150 multiple choice questions with one mark for each of the correct answers. A negative marking of 0.25 marks will be present for all negative responses. CLAT 2023 is designed to assess the suitability and skills required for legal education rather than prior knowledge, although the Current News section may require prior knowledge.

As you are aware the CLAT test pattern has been changed. There are a few changes made to the syllabus and the test pattern. The questions in the test will now appear in the form of a paragraph. There will be approximately 400 word-based passages based on multiple-choice questions that will be asked in each paragraph. The CLAT test syllabus is divided into 5 sections discussed below.

Smart Reading Tips on CLAT 2023

The candidate must read the entire syllabus. Here are some tips for preparing for CLAT 2023 for those who want to appear in the entrance that they must adhere to to ensure good results.

English language

  • In Section CLAT 2023, you will be given about 450 word-for-word passages. Episodes will be taken from modern or historical fiction texts that are important or untrue. Each passage will be followed by a series of questions that will require you to demonstrate your language skills, including your ability to do this;

  • Draw thought and conclusion based on the paragraphs.

  • Summarize the passage.

  • Understand the meaning of words and phrases used in paragraphs.

Current News covering General Knowledge

  • The questions in this section may include an examination of legal information or information discussed or related to a topic, but will not require any additional prior information beyond understanding this section.

  • This section will be based on facts. So you must always remember when answering such questions whether you know the correct answer or not.

  • The candidate must be aware of the latest world events and keep up to date.

  • The candidate must read daily newspapers, newsletters, and relevant articles.

Legal Reasoning

  • You will not need any prior legal knowledge. You will benefit from general awareness of modern legal and ethical issues in order to make better use of common principles or suggestions or in a given case of truth.

  • Answers should focus more on legal thinking than general information. Legal-based information without principles or opinion may affect answers.

  • Candidates must go through the legal systems of different countries.

  • In order to keep pace with the changes, the candidate should practice the questions of the past year in order to avoid the pressures of time, as stress will kill the concentration and thinking ability during the test.

Logical Reasoning

  • This section requires you to be aware of the argument, its locations, and its conclusions. You have read and identified the arguments presented in the paragraphs.

  • Draw relationships and metaphors, find contradictions and equities, and evaluate the effectiveness of arguments.

  • A person desiring to learn should be well acquainted with the basics of logical thinking. He must be able to draw the distraction.

  • It needs clarity in the mind.

  • Candidates are advised to familiarize themselves with sample problems, last year's questions, sample papers.

  • In order to keep the check speed and accuracy, the candidate must perform mock tests and questions.

  • Candidates may refer to other publications, such as S Chand's “Critical Reasoning,” and RS Agarwal's “Modern Critical Reasoning.”

CLAT 2023 Preparation Tips

  • It will include short sets of facts or extensions, graphs, or other textual, symbolic, or pictorial representations, followed by a series of questions.

  • You will need to find information from those verses, graphs, or other presentations, and apply mathematical application to that information.
