How Many General Elections Held so far?

Till now, 17 General Elections have been held. General elections are the political contests in which representatives are chosen from the country’s numerous electorates to address members of Parliament during regularly scheduled sessions. New elections are held every five years in India. The first general election was conducted in 1952, and the last election was held in 2019.

General Elections Held Till Date

Every citizen of India casts a ballot to choose one of several candidates running for the various seats to represent them in the Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament. Only their constituency is open to adult Indian citizens who choose to cast ballots.

On the recommendation of the Union Council of Ministers, chaired by the Prime Minister, candidates who win the Lok Sabha elections are referred to as Members of Parliament and keep their seats for five years or until the body is dissolved by the President.
