1. Gramin Dak Sevak: Branch Post Master

  • The branch postmaster is the head of the branch which covers the area of a Gram Panchayat.
  • The main role of BPM is to administer the various tasks performed at his/her branch. His / Her task is to maintain the workflow at the branch.
  • Using a portable device/mobile device/smartphone to conduct Branch Post Office and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) transactions (offline and online).
  • Postal product and service marketing, India Post Payments Bank services, Customer Services Centres (CSC) services, and business procurement in villages or Gram Panchayats within the Branch Post Office's jurisdiction. This might involve things like organising melas and door-to-door canvassing for business needs, as well as popularising government programmes.
  • Keeping track of records and maintaining a handheld device/mobile device/smartphone
  • The Branch Postmaster is responsible for the smooth and timely operation of the Post Office, including mail conveyance and delivery.
    Assistant Branch Post Master may be able to assist him. BPMs will be required to perform ABPMs' combined functions as needed. There may not be an ABPM post in some Branch Post Offices, hence the BPM is responsible for all of the BO's duties.
  • The BPM is responsible for all financial transactions such as Savings account, Recurring Deposit Account, Sukanya Samridhi Account, etc. The BPM is accountable for these transactions and he/she report to the accounts department for the financial transactions.
  • Any other work allocated by superiors, such as IPOs, ASPOs, SPOs, and SSPOs.

2. Gramin Dak Sevak: Mail Deliverer

  • The job responsibility of the mail deliverer is to deliver the mails to the end-users (public).
  • The BPM handovers mail to Mail Deliverer once mails are received from the accounts office.
  • The Mail Deliverers are also responsible for making the public aware of government policies and schemes. Also, they have to motivate the public to participate in government schemes.
  • The branch postmaster assigns targets to mail deliverers for selling the government schemes.  

3. Gramin Dak Sevak: Mail Collector

  • The main role and responsibility of the mail carrier are to carry the mail bags from the accounting office to branch post and from branch post to account office.
  • There is the possibility that in the case of small branches where the workload is marginal, the responsibility of the mail carrier may be assigned to the mail deliverer.
  • The mail collector is an important link between branch offices and account offices.
  • Since the mail collector can be a mail deliverer, therefore, the reasonability of selling government schemes and policies is an add-on task for them.

4. Gramin Dak Sevak: Packer

  • The roles and responsibilities of the GDS packer are to assist the working of mail deliverer and mail carrier.
  • The packer opens the mail bags and sorts the mails accordingly.
  • They also sort and pack the mails to be sent to other branches and offices.
  • There are instances when the packers can be assigned the job of taking mail bags from the branch office to the accounting office or from the accounting office to the branch office.

5. Gramin Dak Sevak: Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) 

  • Stamp/stationery sales, mail carriage and delivery to doorsteps, IPPB deposits/payments/other transactions
  • Use a handheld gadget, mobile device, or smartphone to assist the Branch Postmaster with counter tasks.
  • Marketing of postal products and services, India Post Payments Bank services, various Customer Services Centre (CSC) services, and business procurement in villages or Gram Panchayats within the Branch Post Office's authority. This might involve things like organising melas and door-to-door canvassing for business needs, as well as popularising government programmes.
  • As and when appropriate, ABPMs will be required to perform Combined Duty of BPMs.
