GATE 2023 Marking Scheme
The GATE 2023 marking scheme is made public by IIT Kharagpur for students to go through it. Negative marking will be there on the GATE question paper. Students attempting wrong answers will be allotted negative marks depending upon the type of question(MCQ) and the weightage of the question.
Let us see the GATE 2023 marking scheme:
- All the 65 questions will be either of the three mentioned types and carry 1 or 2 marks: MCQ(Multiple Choice Questions), MSQ(Multiple Select Questions), and NAT(Numerical Answer Type).
- Only MCQ questions will carry negative marks if attempted wrong.
- ⅓ rd of the weightage of the question will be deducted for the wrong attempt. i.e. ⅔ marks will be deducted for the question carrying 2 marks and ⅓ for the questions carrying 1 mark.
- No negative marks will be marked for not attempting any MCQ-based question.
- MSQ and NAT questions will not carry any negative marks if attempted wrong.
GATE Total Marks
The GATE exam carries a total of 100 marks. There will be 65 questions in the GATE exam. GATE total marks will be divided among these 65 questions where 10 questions of General Aptitude will carry 15 marks. The remaining 85 marks will be covered in the remaining 55 questions based on the subject. If the subject carries Engineering Mathematics then the topic will carry 13 marks.
GATE score can further be calculated depending upon the rank of the candidate. GATE score will be required to get admission to the IITs or NITs.
