GATE Mechanical Paper Analysis 13 February 2022 Shift 1 & Shift 2: GATE Mechanical paper 2022 has been successfully conducted by IIT Kharagpur in the Forenoon Session (9.00 am-12.00 pm) and Afternoon session (2:30 PM-5:30 PM) on 13th February 2022. Many GATE aspirants have appeared for the Mechanical engineering paper to avail various PSU jobs and admission in IITs and NITs for higher studies. Important Highlights of GATE ME 2022 Morning Shift

The first session of the GATE Mechanical Engineering 2021 Paper was conducted in the forenoon between (9.00 am- 12.00 pm). Candidates had to carry their Admit Cards to enter the examination hall. There were 5 MSQs (multiple select), 25 MCQs (multiple select questions), and 35 NAT (Numerical Answer Type) questions in the first shift of the GATE mechanical 2022 exam.

  • The overall difficulty level of the first shift of GATE mechanical paper was Moderate to Tough.
  • There was a total of 5 M.S.Qs (Multiple select) questions in the first shift of paper. All these questions were theoretical-type questions.
  • Manufacturing Engineering & Heat Transfer had the highest weightage in the mechanical first shift of the GATE 2022 paper.
  • Questions asked from the General Aptitude portion were Easy in the first shift.
  • The level of questions from Engineering Mathematics was Moderate which carried 15 marks in the paper.

Question - Which machining process involves the melting of metal workpieces?

5. Thermodynamics - Memory based NAT (2 marks)

Question - A rigid tank of volume 8m3 is being filled up with air from the pipeline. Initially, the tank is evacuated. Pressure and temperature inside the pipeline is 600 kPa and 306 K. the filling takes place unlit tank pressure = pipeline pressure. During filling heat loss is 1000 kJ.

CP = 1.005 kJ/kgK

CV = 0.718 kJ/kgK

Find the final temperature of tank ?

6. Power Plant - Memory based (2 marks)

Question - Steady-state, 500 kg/s steam enters turbine with h = 3500 kJ/kg and s = 6.5 KJ/kgK, expands reversibly to condenser pressure. Heat loss occurs reversibly @500 k. Exit h = 2500 kJ/kg = 6.3 KJ/kgK. Find work output of turbine?

7. SOM - Memory based NAT (2 marks)

8. Heat Transfer - Memory Based [NAT - 2 Marks]

Question - Saturated vapor at 200°C condenses to saturated liquid at 150 kg/s on the shell side (hfg = 2400 kJ/kg). Fluid in tube side (CP = 4 KJ/kg k) enter at 100°. effectiveness of the heat exchanger is 0.9 then the mass flow rate of fluid in the tube?
