GATE General Aptitude (GA) Syllabus 2022

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a master's level entrance exam for prestigious institutes such as IIT, NIT, and other government colleges. It also assists students in obtaining employment with Public Sector Units (PSUs). IIT Kharagpur will host GATE 2022 in February. The revised syllabus will be announced shortly. Based on the previous GATE Question Paper, a complete syllabus of the General Aptitude section is provided here.

The GATE question paper is divided into two sections:

  1. General Aptitude 
  2. Engineering Mathematics and Engineering Subject

Data interpretation: data graphs (bar graphs, pie charts, and other graphs representing data), 2- and 3-dimensional plots, maps, and tables

Mensuration and geometry

Elementary statistics and probability

Numerical computation and estimation: ratios, percentages, powers, exponents and logarithms, permutations and combinations, and series

Analytical Aptitude

Logic: deduction and induction Analogy

Numerical relations and reasoning

Spatial Aptitude

Transformation of shapes: translation, rotation, scaling, mirroring, assembling, and grouping

Paper folding, cutting, and patterns in 2 and 3 dimensions

Preparation Strategy

  • Generally, 1 mark and 2 marks questions are coming from this section of 15 marks.
  • This part is comparatively easy to score and helps to boost the overall marks.
  • GATE previous year questions from each stream aid in the preparation of this section.
  • If you start attempting the paper from the Aptitude section, you can write all English Alphabet along with their serial numbers. Please go through the below image for a better understanding.

  • Here, you can easily find out the gap between two alphabets, opposite alphabets, and the serial number of each alphabet. It will surely help you to attempt logical reasoning questions fast.
