Solution:
Although the velocity and acceleration in SHM follower motion are finite, the maximum acceleration is discontinuous at the beginning and end of the rising phase. As a result, the jerk is unlimited at the start and end of the rise portion.
Hence, for low and moderate-speed engines, the cam follower should move with simple harmonic motion. A cycloidal follower motion is recommended for high-speed applications.
