(A) Steady and uniform

(B) Unsteady and uniform

(C) Steady and non-uniform

(D) Unsteady and non-uniform

The flooding of a river is an example of unsteady and non-uniform flow. Flooding happens when a stream discharges too much water and water spills out of the channel onto the nearby flood plain in all directions. The river’s flooding is an example of erratic and irregular flow.

Types of Flood Flow

There are many different types of flow and are classified as below:

  • Steady flow: it is defined as a type of flow in which the fluid characteristics like velocity (V), pressure (P), density (ρ), etc. at a point do not change with time. Steady flow is mathematically represented as (𝛿V/𝛿t)x0, y0, z0 = 0, (𝛿P/𝛿t)x0, y0, z0 = 0, (𝛿ρ/𝛿t)x0, y0, z0 = 0
  • Unsteady flow: is defined as a type of flow in which velocity pressure or density at a point changes with respect to time.
  • Uniform flow: is defined as a type of flow in which velocity at any given time does not change with respect to space (i.e., length of direction of the flow) uniform flow is mathematically represented as (𝛿V/𝛿s)t = constant = 0. 𝛿V = Change of velocity, 𝛿s = Length of flow in the direction s
  • Non-uniform flow: It is a type of flow in which velocity at any given time changes with respect to space.

Summary:

Flooding of a River is an Example of ______ Flow. (A) Steady and uniform (B) Unsteady and uniform (C) Steady and non-uniform (D) Unsteady and non-uniform

An example of irregular and non-uniform flow occurs when a river floods. It occurs when there is too much water discharged from a water body or due to heavy rain. Sometimes it destroys colonies and jungles also.
