Finance Ministry puts on Hold Clerical Cadre Exams in PSU Banks

The Finance Ministry asked the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) on Tuesday to postpone clerical cadre examinations at public sector banks (PSBs) until a final decision is made on whether or not to conduct tests in regional languages. A committee has been formed to examine the need for taking clerical cadre examinations in PSBs in local/regional languages, according to a statement from the Finance Ministry.

A few days back, IBPS released an advertisement regarding the hold on exams in order to not recruit the clerical cadre in Public Sector Banks in two major languages such as English & Hindi.
Southern states have been requested for conducting bank clerical cadre in other recognized regional languages as well. The Indian Constitution has given recognition to only 22 different languages.
The recruitment examination for employment in the regional rural banks (RRBs) will be conducted in regional languages other than English and Hindi, said by the Finance Minister in the Parliament in (July 2019).
In order to provide a fair playing field for local youths seeking jobs in Bank Sector, the government decided in 2019 to conduct the examinations in 13 regional languages, including Konkani and Kannada, in addition to Hindi and English, for the recruitment of Office Assistant and Officer Scale I in RRBs.
The IBPS took the initiative to hold the examination will be put on hold until the final decision came by the committee.
