IES Exam Pattern 2022
The UPSC IES examination 2022 constitutes of three stages which are as follows:
- Stage 1: Preliminary Examination
- Stage 2: Mains Examination
- Stage 3: Personality Test (Personal Interview)

IES Exam Pattern 2022 - Prelims
The IES Exam Pattern 2022 of Prelims is an Objective type and consists of 2 papers which will be conducted in two sessions.
- Paper-1 is General Studies and Engineering Aptitude, and Paper-2 is an Engineering Discipline Paper.
- Paper-1 carries a total of 100 questions (200 marks) and the duration of the exam is 2 Hours.
- Paper-2 carries a total of 150 questions (300 marks) and the duration of the exam is 3 Hours.
- Only candidates qualified in Preliminary Examination (Stage-1) will be eligible for Mains Examination (Stage-2).
- Minimum Qualifying marks for each Paper will be at the discretion of the commission.
- Only those candidates qualifying at this stage are permitted to appear for the Stage-2 examination.

IES Exam Pattern 2022 - Mains
The IES Mains Exam 2022 is a subjective/ conventional type and consists of 2 papers that will be conducted in different sessions. Let us see the IES Exam Pattern of Mains:
- Paper-1 and Paper-2 are Engineering Disciplines.
- Paper-1 carries a total of 8 questions out of which you have to attempt 5 questions (300 Marks) and the duration of the Paper is 3 Hours.
- Paper-2 carries a total of 8 questions out of which you have to attempt 5 questions (300 Marks) and the duration of the Paper is 3 Hours.
- Only qualified candidates in Preliminary Exam (Stage-1) and Mains Exam (Stage-2) will be eligible for Stage-3 which is the Personality Test (Interview).

IES Exam Pattern 2022 - Interview
The final stage of the IES Exam Pattern is the Interview round. Once a candidate successfully completes the written examinations in the ESE IES Examination 2022 he/she will have to go through a comprehensive personality test which is known as an Interview round. It is a screening round.
- Those candidates who qualify the Stage-1, Stage-2 and Stage-3 will be considered for the final merit list of IES Exam 2022 provided by the UPSC.
