CAT 2023: Eligibility Criteria

Common Admission Test (CAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted every year by the IIMs on a rotational basis to get admission into the Top B-Schools all over India. It is the most common MBA entrance exam among management aspirants. CAT 2019 consisted of 100 questions. From 2020 onwards the number of questions got reduced. However, in CAT 2021 and CAT 2022 the number of questions remained the same as 66. CAT 2023 is expected to be held on 26th November 2023 however, the official notification is yet to be released. The candidates aspiring to appear for the CAT 2023 exam must know the CAT 2023 eligibility criteria.

CAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria Overview

In CAT 2021, there was a slight change in the eligibility criteria. The CAT committee has removed the minimum percentage of marks for CAT 2021. Also, the candidates in the final year of their Graduation Degree with “promotion/pass” instead of “award of marks” certificates in any of the last two years of the Bachelor’s Programme can enter the “Promotion or Pass” option in the application form. In CAT 2022 no change was seen in the eligibility criteria and it is expected to be the same for CAT 2023. The eligibility criteria according to CAT 2022 is given below.

  • Candidates should have completed their Graduation Degree with at least 50% marks (General Category) and 45% marks (Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe and PWD)
  • Final year students who have completed their degree requirements and are waiting for their results are also eligible.
  • Students with a professional degree are also eligible (CA/CS/ICWA/Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI)
  • There is no age limit for the candidates to apply for the CAT exam.

Note:

  • The University will be declared incorporated by an Act of the Parliament or the State Legislature of India or will be treated as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
  • It should be noticed that the percentage an individual gets in Graduation should be determined based on practices followed by the concerned University.
  • If any percentage conversion scheme is unavailable for a particular University, the candidate's CGPA is divided by the maximum possible CGPA and the result is then multiplied by 100.

CAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Registration with Backlogs

CAT applicants having academic backlogs during their Graduation program are eligible to apply and enroll for CAT without any issue. Any applicant who scores above 50% (45% for the reserved category) in the degree (even in supplementary) can apply for CAT 2023. If it is asked in the registration form, "Whether you are in the final year of your Graduation?" Select "Yes" to the question.

The CAT 2023 Notification is yet to be released. When the candidates have given all the important information in the CAT 2022 application form and uploaded the documents, they would need to pay the required charges depending upon the category to which they belong.
