Choosing Between MS and Mtech

M.Tech is a course-centric program focused mainly on Industries and M.S is a research-centric program the most basic difference between MS and Mtech are listed below.

Admission to an M.S. program depends on the score of the entrance exam as well as the interview round whereas admission to an M.Tech program depends on the candidate’s GATE score and in some cases Institutes’ internal tests.
If a student wants to be trained in a specific stream within the discipline of engineering the M.E./M. Tech is the choice. The student is trained to work in an industry as well as take up some research work with the degree of M.Tech(M.E) in hand. The students are trained to take up a career in research in industry or academia as far as M.S. is concerned.
The M.Tech(M.E) has a course duration of strictly 2 years. Duration of M.S. can extend even up to 3 or 4 years, depending on the status of the project. The M.S. degree is granted to the student only on completion of the project taken up for his/her master’s.

Aspirants who are interested to do higher studies after their B.Tech in India itself then M.tech is the option for you. In order to pursue Mtech, you must write an exam called GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. With a good score in GATE then you can be selected for various courses in IITs, NITs, or any other university.
