CTET Mathematics Syllabus for Paper 2

Candidates who want to apply for Upper Primary Level (Class 6 to 8) Teaching Exam must have a CTET certificate which is issued after passing Paper 2. The level of Mathematics questions in Paper 2 is good as compared to the questions in Paper 1. So, candidates must first check CTET Syllabus for Paper 2 and then prepare a preparation strategy. The Paper 2 Mathematics syllabus is divided into two parts i.e. Content and Pedagogical Issues. 

1. Content

  • Number System: Knowing our Numbers, HCF & LCM, Whole Numbers, Negative Numbers and Integers, and Fractions.
  • Algebra: Basic Concept of Algebra, Question-Related to Algebraic Equation, and Ratio & Proportion.
  • Geometry: Basic geometrical ideas (2-D), Understanding Elementary Shapes (2-D and 3-D), Symmetry: (reflection), and Construction (using Straight edge Scale, protractor, compasses).
  • Mensuration: Sphere, Cylinder, Cone, Triangle, Circle, and Rectangle/Square. 
  • Arithematics: Time & Work, Time & Distance, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest, and Ratio & Proportion

Resources to Prepare CTET Mathematics Syllabus

Mathematics is a common subject in both CTET Paper-1 and Paper-2. It includes subject pedagogy, arithmetic questions, advanced math questions, Nambethe system, and application-based questions, etc.

In each paper, 15 questions are asked from the content part and 15 questions are asked from pedagogy. Students should answer the question from the topic in 30 minutes so that they get enough time to answer the questions from other sections.

  • NCERT books for Classes 6 to 8 are the most important resource to prepare for Mathematics.
