The function of heart is to pump blood throughout the body which supplies nutrients and oxygen and removes CO2 and waste from blood. The heart, which is an essential organ, is in charge of movement in the human body. The heart has four chambers: two upper chambers called the stria or auricles and two ventricles (lower chambers).

Three Layers of Human Heart’s Wall

There are three layers that make up the heart’s wall:

  1. Epicardium- This layer of defence is constructed of connective tissues.
  2. Myocardium- The cardiac muscles are shaped by this layer.
  3. Endocardium- The heart and valves are protected by its innermost layer.

The septum, a muscular wall, divides the two sides of the heart. The pericardium, which surrounds and fastens the heart inside the chest, shields and protects it. The pericardium’s inner and outer layers are both filled with pericardial fluid, which lubricates the heart while the diaphragm and lungs contract.

Function of Heart

  • The main job of the heart is to pump blood around the body.
  • It cleanses the blood of carbon dioxide and waste while supplying oxygen and nutrients to the tissues.
  • Additionally, it aids in keeping the body’s blood pressure at a healthy level.
  • The heart’s vital function in circulating blood throughout the body and regulating body temperature.

Blood flow in the heart

  • The arteries take the heart’s oxygenated blood and distribute it throughout the body. In contrast, veins transport deoxygenated blood from every portion of the body to the heart where it is given oxygen.
  • Blood is drawn from the veins and pumped to the right ventricle via the right atrium.
  • Blood from the right atrium is pumped by the right ventricle to the lungs.
  • Blood that has been oxygenated by the lungs enters the left atrium and is pumped to the left ventricle.
  • The blood with oxygen is circulated throughout the body through the left ventricle.

Summary:

Describe the function of heart.

The heart’s function is to circulate blood throughout the body, carrying nutrition and oxygen while expelling CO2 and waste products. It helps in maintaining the blood pressure in a healthy level.
