Double circulation in human beings is defined as the process of flowing blood through the heart twice to complete one cycle. In other words, to supply blood to the whole body, it passes through the heart twice. The process of double circulation in human beings involves Systematic and Pulmonary circulation.

Necessity of Double Circulation in Human Beings

Dual circulation is necessary for the human body to separate oxygenated blood from deoxygenated blood which is very important for the proper functioning of organs and maintaining body temperature. This process involves systemic and pulmonary circulation as described below:

Systematic Circulation: It involves the circulation of oxygen-rich blood from the left ventricles to the tissues. The oxygenated blood is passed through the Aorta for supply to various organs of the body. Later, the veins hold the deoxygenated blood from different parts of the body which contains carbon dioxide, and transfer it back to the right atrium via the superior vena cava.

Pulmonary Circulation: The right atrium carries blood to the right ventricle which was carried by the Pulmonary artery to the lungs for oxygenation. Then, the Pulmonary Vein pumps the oxygenated blood back to the left atrium, which is purified and brought to the left ventricles.
