    a. (Chess) a position of the pieces in which a player cannot move any piece except the king and cannot move the king without putting it in check (Noun)
    b. any position or situation in which no action can be taken or progress made; deadlock (Noun)
    c. to subject to a stalemate (Verb)
    d. to bring to a standstill (Verb)

  • Meaning:

5. Word: Rhetoric (शब्दाडम्बर)

  • Meaning: language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect, but which is often regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content.
  • Synonyms: Elocution, Discourse, Bombast
  • Antonyms: Conciseness, Quiet
  • Use in a Sentence: As the elections are just one week away, the rhetoric on both parties is building.

6. Word: Gravely (गंभीर भाव से)

  • Pronunciation: greyv-lee/ ग्रैव्ली
  • Part of Speech: Adverb
  • Meaning: 
    a. to a degree that gives cause for alarm.
    b. in a serious or solemn manner.
  • Synonyms: seriously, severely, intensely
  • Antonyms: cheerfully, frivolously

 7. Word: Crippling (अशक्त कर देने वाला)

  • Pronunciation: Crip-ling/ क्रिपलिंग
  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning: cause a severe and almost insuperable problem for.
  • Synonyms: weakening, destroying, spoiling.
  • Antonyms: Strengthening, fortifying
  • Usage in a sentence: A crippling attack of malaria kept him in bed for months.

8. Word: Attrition (संघर्षण)

  • Pronunciation: uh-trish-uh n/अट्रिशन
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning: the process of reducing something's strength or effectiveness through sustained attack or pressure.
  • Synonyms: depletion, undermining, corrosion
  • Antonyms: fortification, escalating

9. Word: Ceasefire (युद्धविराम)
