  • Meaning : to block or slow passage through
  • Synonyms :  block, obstruct, stop.
  • Antonyms : open
  • Usage in a sentence:  Hundreds of angry voters began to clog the government phone lines with complaints.

4. Word: Sputter (हलचल)

  • Meaning:
    a. make a series of soft explosive or spitting sounds. (Verb)

  • Synonyms: spray, spatter

5. Word: Ratchet up (बढ़ावा)

  • Meaning: to increase something over a period of time

    a. to make a sudden, sharp, distinct sound; crack, as a whip; crackle (Verb)
    b. to click, as a mechanism or the jaws or teeth coming together (Verb)

    d. a short, sharp sound, as that caused by breaking a twig or closing a latch (Noun)
    e. to seize with or take, buy, or obtain as with a quick bite or grab (followed by up or off) (Verb)

  • Antonyms: bear, combine, liberate
  • Usage in a sentence: You'll snap that ruler if you bend it too far.

7. Word: Benign (सौम्य)

  • Pronunciation: be-nine/बिनाइन
  • Part of Speech: Adjective
  • Meaning  - having no significant effect/gentle and kind/not harmful 
  • Synonyms -  temperate, mild, gentle, clement, calm, balmy, pleasant
  • Antonyms -  unfriendly, hostile harsh, unhealthy, unfavourable
  • Usage in a sentence - The eco-friendly company will only drill for oil in areas where its practices are benign.

8. Word: Abate (कम करना)

  • Pronunciation: uh-beyt/अबेट
  • Part of Speech: Verb
  • Meaning
    a. to become less strong
    b. (Law)to put an end to or suppress (a nuisance)
    c. (Law)to suspend or extinguish (an action)
    d. to deduct or subtract
    e. to omit
  • Synonyms: lessen, diminish, decrease, reduce
  • Antonyms: increase, intensify, enhance
  • Usage in a sentence: The storm has started to abate.

9. WordRely on (भरोसा करना)

  • Part of Speech: Phrasal verb
  • Meaning:
    a. depend on or derive support from someone or something
  • Synonyms: depend, count
  • Usage in a sentence: They have learned to rely on each other for support.

10. Word: Intervention (हस्तक्षेप)

  • Pronunciation: in-ter-ven-shuh n/ इन्टर्वेन्शन
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning: the action or process of intervening
  • Synonyms: interference, mediation, intrusion
  • Antonyms: noninterference, nonintervention, challenge
